Sereena. She can use her beauty to really take control of subzero

Sektor has huge huge potential IMO. He can be a monster and be kind of the zarqawi of mortal kombat, killing people and dropping bombs and shit. I like that...

Thats about all I can see. I hope the rest of the mortal kombat characters dies in the next MK...

All characters have potential, but the one I'm most interested in...

Sareena.
Neutral chatacter, stuck in the middle of a huge situation, with connections or potential connections to numerous other characters. She can easily be made the central figure of the Netherealm storyline and not just some supporting player in Sub-Zero's story. She doesn't even need Sub-Zero to be interesting.
I hope they fulfill her potential in Armageddon and have her come back after. It'd be a real waste the throw her away after one game. Personally, I think they should keep her neutral and have her leaning towards the good side than have her simply be evil. I think she can go much farther that way.

I think all characters do have potential. Except Mokap, thats probably a total tear down.

Anyway the ones I see the most potential in are my two faves.

Sonya

I wish they'd expand on her love for her friends and what they ever so briefly touched upon in Annihilation, she's willing to die herself but she would not let anything happen to her friends. Johnny Cage, Sonya and Liu Kang can all be compared. They are all heroes but for different reasons. While Johnny is good he ends up always soaking up the glory of being a hero. Liu Kang is the hero because he was raised to be a hero and had learnt of Outworld and Mortal Kombat from a young age. The fact that he was Earth's destined fighter also had some affect but Sonya is selfless hero with very few ties to her own personal gain.
She would risk her own life to safe that of any of her friends. She has been shown as a shadowed hero. When the Earth government didn't believe her story she attempted to take matters into her own hands and fought alongside her allies against impossible odds (MK3), she followed Liu Kang into the netherealm, she even put her hatred for Jarek and her history with the Black Dragon aside. She also journeyed to Outworld not only to aid Raiden, but also went in search of two of her men, Kenshi and Cyrax and although it might not be entirely canon, in MKSM's intro Sonya is shown lunging towards Goro proving that even if she may not be capable of defeating the bollocks she was gonna try her best and sell her life as dearly as possible.
I hope they emphasize on Sonya's immense hero qualities and not only that but her inability to open herself up entirely should she ever lose someone. She's very very protective of her friends, afraid she could not bear to lose another. She's the mammy of the group. tongue

Mileena

While I loved her pyscho evil hatred for Kitana in MKD I think it's time for Mileena to become a pyscho evil selfish bitch who wants what she wants and has no ties to the Tarkata, Shao Kahn or Edenia. I'd like her to take an interest in Seido or Chaos realm, an interesting character like Mileena could definitley inject some fresh juice into Seido. But she'd have to gain some power, perhaps a few stragglings from the Edenian Army who preferred when Mileena was in command and perhaps some Tarkata's who thought that if Mileena could defeat Baraka they should listen to her (Hell yeah, she better!!!) So perhaps her and a small army could invade Seido and add a rivalry with Hotaru or someone. Just a thought.

Well, Mavado for one, as the whole red dragon thing could definatley be carried on, ermac, as he only started developing properly in deception, and cyrax, as the whole half robot thing would work well in next gen games. Midway should hurry up and kill the black dragon already, they've dragged it out for way too long and kabal is pretty stale. he was only really popular in the first place because mk3 was so unbalanced.

To me, there's three standout MK characters that are worthy of return/remaking in future MK battles.

1st Place: Kung Lao. What Luigi is to the Super Mario Bros. series, Kung Lao is to Mortal Kombat. Always the eternal understudy to Liu Kang, even after Kang's killed in MKDA. The reason they keep this guy around is clearly to be Liu Kang's sidekick, even though he's really the main attraction. I think he'll get his own MK Mythologies game, or something like it, or maybe his descendant will be the main character in the Konquest mode for MK8 (or MK5, as I'll call it since MKDA, MKD and MKA weren't officially numbered).

2nd Place: Kabal. I'm not going to lie to you. Kabal is a BAMF (bad-ass motherf--ker). He's one of those faces you just can't forget and highlights the Mortal Kombat series. According to his ending in MKD (and possibly some stuff I threw it), he consumed the Dragon King's Heart and gained his power to resurrect the dead, so he should be around for at least one more game after MKA since he could probably resurrect himself from the dead (and I'm sure Kano could fix that smile) . Kabal's hookswords are one of the best weapons in the game (and one of the few characters that should actually HAVE weapons, unlike that curse-worthy Johnny Cage), and if they make the games any more interactive, you can use them to whip around off poles and rafters and do some pretty cool strikes.

3rd Place: Scorpion. Everyone's favorite hell-spawned spectre, the mighty Scorpion. Scorpion has been the face of Mortal Kombat since MK1, and it would be a crime against the Elder Gods to remove their champion from the series. Scorp's one of the characters we've kind of grown up with as MK grew and matured from this insignificant little 2-D fighter game that sent Street Fighter 2 (and about 99% of all the United States' parents) running home pissing its pants, and Scorpion's been one of the series' most successful and popular characters. Except for a lack of yellow-clad ninja in MK3 (a problem Midway quickly fixed with UMK3), Scorpion's been in every MK game AND MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero. And if Midway DOES replace Scorpion, they'd better hope Scorp's a hidden character, because as Homey The Clown once said, "Homey don't play that way". furious
