Which characters are ruled out by the 5 clans
Which characters are ruled out by the 5 clans

posted01/02/2015 11:17 PM (UTC)byprojectzero00So after Kung Lao's leak, there was something that caught my attention and that hasn't been discussed a lot. We found out that we will be able to choose our alignment in the game from 5 different options: Lin Kuei, White Lotus, Brotherhood of shadows, Special Forces and Black Dragon.
First thing that came to my mind was that some MK characters don't fall under any of those categories. Let's break it down:
Link Kuei:
Sub Zero (confirmed)
Smoke
Cyrax
Sektor
Frost
White Lotus:
Raiden (confirmed)
Kung Lao (confirmed)
Liu Kang (rumored)
Kai
Shujinko
Brotherhood of Shadows:
Quan Chi (confirmed)
Noob Saibot
Reiko
Sareena/Kia/Jataaka
Ashrah (former)
Special Forces:
Sonya (rumored)
Kenshi (rumored)
Jax
Stryker
Black Dragon:
Kano (confirmed)
Kabal
Kira
Kobra
Jarek
Tremor
Many characters don't belong to any of those groups. To name a few that are heavily requested or rumored: Mileena, Fujin, Baraka, Ermac, Reptile, Kitana, Shang Tsung, Tanya, etc. What does that mean for all those characters? Do you think some of them will make it and join one of those groups (for the sake of balance) or do you think they will miss out?
PS. Red Dragon wasn't listed among the alignments, however there was a Red Dragon goon concept art leaked a while ago.

So are you saying you think that if these 5 groups are so important in the game, it could be that every character that is going to be in the game will be a member of one? Meh. The problem with this from right off the bat is that Kotal Kahn doesn't fit into any of these groups at all and we already know he is in the game, so...

We don't yet know the story and he could join one of those (possibly the Brotherhood) but my question is, how will the game work if there are characters that don't fall under any category?

Actually on Kotal Kahns story he use to be a white lotus and then lost his ways and his soul was banished into a statue. That now is why he is brought to life by Quan Chi to take over earthrealm and outworld. Hint: I just guessed so don't be hating on me.

I don't see how your reply answers my question. Oh and btw I understood the concept perfectly fine. I don't think you understood this thread.
The game categorizes the characters into 5 different groups from which you get to pick one character. I don't see how that will work for characters that aren't included into those groups.

That's not how I understand it to work. The way I understand it, in the online mode, every player will choose to be affiliated with one of those 5 groups, and be a part of that "team" with their W/L record going toward an overall record for their "team".
It doesn't have anything to do with the characters themselves in-game.

I doubt it'll work like this...I don't think allegiance has any bearing on characters you can play....You're simply making points for the team of your choice..it's a cute online thing nothing more, that's what I think.

I don't think the clan thing is for online mode only because it said it would change the menu of single and multi player modes. Maybe I'm taking that the wrong way but its a strong possibility IMO that story mode will be affected by what clan you choose and what characters are unlocked via that play through. I hope at least. And maybe unlocking other clans for single player use. That would be kotal , dvorah, etc.
The only thing it means is that at least one member of each of those groups will probably be in story mode. Kotal Kahn and the entirety of outworld doesn't fit in any of those groups, yet they'll stil play a large part in the story. This isn't a story mode thing, its just a way to compete etc for online and single player modes.

Yup.
I was really hoping that Scorpion tries to rebuild the Shirai Ryu. The fact that they were not included among the groups here doesn't give me much optimism that will happen.
But the comic supposedly does feature him with a protege...so I dunno.

Um. Derp?
Edenia isn't a faction or group. Its a realm. Not everyone in Edenia share the same alignment. You don't see an Earthrealm or Netherrealm group, do you?
Also, this thread makes no sense. The OP doesn't seem to grasp the concept of the online mode.
Yeah, this is the "persistent online" part Ed mentioned. The OP took this absolutely wrong. Sounds like users will choose a faction, and stuff like total wins by one faction will effect menus in single player and online. Makes sense that each faction will have some representation in game, but by no means is this determining the roster.

Yeah the only thing that the alignment system does is change your UI. It doesn't restrict or discount the number or which characters you can pick. It's more a profile thing.

Yeah because what other real options are there to get a fresh story for him?
Really it's that, he becomes the legit Champion of the Elder Gods again, finds another wife and gives up fighting (I'm sure that'll go over well), or just something that hasn't been theorized yet.
