I believe Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects took fighting games to a whole different level. As more games are being released for the X-Box 360 and the PS3 in the future, I believe all fighting games will include the ability to run around in stages, and interact with the enviornment, such as picking up items and throwing them at opponents, fly around, climb up walls or buildings. To me, I enjoyed Verses Mode in MK: Shaolin Monks and the boss fights more than any other part of it. I think it would be a good idea to make the next generation fighting engine similar to MK: Shaolin Monks' Verses Mode with more combos and more of a fighting game and more special attacks. And with the stage fatalities and the weapons on the ground characters would be able to pick up, the next MK would be great. What if 4 people wanted to play, think of 2 on 2 battles (to whsomething similar en you played the Kitana, Jade, and Mileena bossfight witha friend). Until then, we'll never know what the next generation fighting engine would be like. But who knows, I might be right.

If the next-gen MK is as horrible as Rise of the Imperfects I'll never play another one again. It's strictly a Marvel fan only game, not a fighting game fan game.

Current MK's > Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.

I'd like a combination of fighting engine's of UMK3, MKG and MKSM. However, I don't think it would turn out like I picture it, but it would be awesome if they could pull it off.

I'd like to see character's manipulate the arena to their advantage as well. Like Tremor could cause earthquakes, making pieces of the ceiling fall, or (if it's a 2 tiered arena) cracks to form in the floor so your opponent could fall through. You could crack open the floor to stop your opponent from coming at you, as a containment move - kinda like Sub Zero's ice clone or ground freeze in the classic games, but more advanced and complex.
