My guess is that the next MK game will be a fighting game (MK8). For the reason you mentioned above, MK is making its way on the new consoles and for the franchise to stay alive they should make it a fighting game for 2007. At first Midway's plan was to make 1 adventure game followed by fighting, and keeping this (1 MK) every year.

Well, if the next game is really in the next-gen , they should not waste time with a adventure and go put their efforts in the traditional fighting game, I would be kind disappointed to see an adventure game on next-gen before a fighting one. Also, I hope they won't rush it , they should take 2 years to make this one, it should come only in mid 2008, if it comes in only one year , my guess is that it won't be so great.

Please let it be fighting game that can at least rival Tekken and Soulcalibur a little in terms of gameplay.

People, don't get your hopes up for the next MK fighting game to be anywhere on par with Tekken of Virtua Fighter. There were so many times where I had high hopes for the new MK game only to be let down. The only new MK game that I actually enjoyed was MKSM.

I want fighting i cant stand adventure or RPG games. For Mortal Kombat its okay once in a while but i dont want it turing into RPG.
