What does all new gameplay mean?
In MKX's press release, it's stated that "Mortal Kombat X combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever". For me, this means one of two things: One, a completely different fighting mechanic than the one that was used in MK9, or two, same fighting mechanic with added touches, such as the environmental interactions seen in the trailer and also in Injustice. My questions are these: Do you think that NRS would scrap their current system for a new one, or just build off of the system that is currently in place? Also, if you could choose any fighting mechanic from any game, which one would you go with?

I think MK9 had great fighting mechanics and I HOPE they just build of what they had. I guess we'll just have to wait for E3..

I really think they likely have a whole new engine for MKX. Correct me if Im wrong but didnt they start developing MK9 before they got picked up by WB? Yeah they have a ton more resources now than they ever did with Midway. Use that shit in MKX from the ground up and make something way better.

Right now, it's too early to say. We'll have to wait until E3 to get a clearer idea of what the gameplay will be like. I think that overall, the gameplay of MK 2011 and Injustice has a fairly solid base. They probably should keep the 4-button control scheme with the front and back punches and kicks, having the super meter, etc. From there, they can add on new mechanics to make things more interesting but hopefully also mechanics to help balance the game.

I'm really hoping it's just like the cinematic trailer. There will be instances where the camera takes a specific angle for certain attacks (such as when Subby smashed Scorp with the branch, environment attacks), certain aerial moves, X-rays etc.
I just hope it doesn't slow down the gameplay too much if they decide to use some slo-mo camera effects, maybe one or two per match.

I think it means that what we saw in the trailer is probably a good representation of what the new gameplay will be like. It will actually look like 2 characters fighting, like real life looking instead of video game looking. This could be an evolution in the making if done right.

Don't think making it look like DOA with more brutal moves is better.

If there is a HUGE change in gameplay, I guess we really shouldn't be surprised. Boon seems to have some kind of a.d.d. when it comes to his fighting engines, for better or for worse. I will say this though, with NRS' last two games, they have absolutely earned my trust as far as gameplay goes. I think we should all be walking into this e3 with a little faith.

I think this is actually one of the most confusing trailers ever made. MKs always had cinematic trailers but them having it 2.5d just raised so many questions (got people talking at least)
My hopes/ pipe dream is for a larger focus on combo breakers and counters in general. Also improved block animations that make it look like a choreographed martial arts fight (the trailer). Something I've wanted for so long in fighting games but I realize it would be take an insane amount of work (At least I think... I'm no frames/ memory data expert)
Other than that, same thing everyone wants. Make it less stiff and make juggling feel more natural/tone it down. Balanced cast.
Another pipe dream thing I was kinda hoping for in MK9, finishers that aren't fatalities/ special moves that kill. We have Ex versions of moves (maybe some kind of super moves will be in, but that's just trailer speculation... Sub zero charging up that huge ice ball). Id like Kill versions of the moves. Fancier versions of said special move that kills the opponent. Using scorpion as an example.
Spear (Kill Version): Deadly Alliacne/ MKX trailer fatality.
Hellfire (Kill Version): Toasty.
Teleport (Kill Version): Back stab/cut throat.
Every game as Ex version of moves. MK could be the first with kill versions. Leave the input fatalities as big elaborate spectacles.

That sounds pretty cool.
When your opponent's heath bar is low they will be on their toes to dodge/block your lethal special moves. It would be appealing to watch these fatalities during a fast paced fight, rather than win the fight, input your fatality code and watch. Pacing is everything.
Interesting idea.
