" Sources indicate that buyout bid is on the way from entertainment media giant for troubled Mortal Kombat firm

Reliable trade sources have informed MCV that Warner Bros is readying a potential bid for Midway Games.

It is thought that the LEGO publisher is particularly keen to acquire Midway’s flagship Mortal Kombat and Stranglehold franchises, as well as its retro IP such as Gauntlet, Joust and Galaga – and a modern casual game roster including Game Party and Touchmaster.

MCV understands that Midway is keen for Warner to match its target sale price of $30m (£20.6m) – but that it may yet sell off its owned IP and studios separately.

A source close to Midway told MCV: “Warner is pretty confident that they will get Midway – which will be an immediate boost to their portfolio. The deal isn’t done yet. Midway is still open to offers from other potential buyers – but Warner looks to be favourite to wrap it up. They look ready to put the money on the table.”

A key employee incentive plan means that 28 key Midway members will receive a number of financial rewards if Midway’s $30 million target price is met." "

I want Warner Bros. to buy MK. Not just for the games but for the guarantee that a promising multi-million movie will get to work. Just imagine what they can do with it. With all the CGI and filming methods we saw on 300 and the Potters and Watchmen and the Matrix.

It’s gonna be legendary!

With Warner Bros. everything is possible. Make an R-rated dark-looking movie filmed with green screen, with added awesome backgrounds, cast some big names, create the characters as precise as possible, hire the best costume designers out there and make freaking Scorpion, and SubZero look like something we’ve never seen before or will again!

If a company has the money and the experience and the talent to make MK blow our freaking minds and rock our effing socks off .. that’s Warner.

Imagine CGI Goro...

Mk vs. DC 2

I'm not a hater on mk vs dc, i actually love the game. But it's not MK. I fear this may be the end of M-rated mk. There is still hope they will respect the franchise and still give us a real MK9 (praying)

I think that one thing to keep in mind is that despite the fact that Warner owns DC comics, Warner Bros is so much more than just that.

Trust me, they don't want to buy Midway just so they can get a sequel to mk vs dc. That thinking is somewhat shortsighted in my opinion. Let's try to think a little beyond the last mk game. This possible acquisition has many possible opportunities. All have the potential to fail but just as much chance to succeed.

Let's wait and see what happens before all the doom and gloom talk.

The way I saw MKvsDC was an attempt to make money. Whether it was successful or not (I don’t really know how it did) it was a crossover just to attract fans from both sides and therefore increase profit, for a company that desperately needed cash.

With a company like Warner or any other rich beast owning the rights to MK, the game will be able to survive on its own. Additionally, MK will get the one thing that was missing all this time and this is money. We all know that no matter how skilled and talented a team behind a game is, without tons of cash they can’t deal with the competition, whether that is SF, Tekken or anything else.

I highly doubt that another MKvsDC will ever come out. My assumption is that before MK9 comes out, advertising and promotion will be so big that will force people to wait for the game anxiously. Then, after its release, the game will continuously live on with DLC’s for a year or so.
