Um... Timeline?
Ehh, I'm trying not to be so technical with this question but um... If I point your direction to the timeline that's on the overhead for this site, please count the games that there are on the list and see if MK9 makes any sense.
I call this game MK2011 because I refuse to call it MK9, it's not really the nineth game in the series, and it really doesn't make quite sense to claim MKvsDC as the eight installment of the series because that... was an entirely different game/story/universe.
So, technically, wouldn't this game be basically the eighth game rather than the nineth?
I'm still calling it MK2011 though. Just because the last time I went somewhere technical, *ahem* the "ninjas," not too many people appreciated that.

No, the count is somewhere around 16 if you count every single separate version as a new game.
But we don't do that. Numbers are only for the "main" fighting genre games. Stuff like Mythologies and Shaolin Monks don't get them because they're "spin-offs". Like how you wouldn't call the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie "X-Men 4".
And games like Ultimate, Trilogy, Gold, and Unchained are not separate games, they're upgraded versions of 3, 4, and 6. Director's Cuts, not sequels.

All things considered it was still better then Street Fighter the movie and Mortal Kombat Annihilation. But all things considered proper titling went out the window ages ago.

I still hate that MK vs. DC is referred to as Mortal Kombat 8. I get that it's called that because it's the 8th main fighting game in the series, but I still think it's a stupid.
As for MK2011, maybe this should be thought of as the first Mortal Kombat in a new series of MK games.

So what you are saying is that they could make two timelines for the whole MK series?
