Tournament. That's what Mortal kombat originally was.

Tournament. I always wondered why the mK team deviated from tournament concept, since the term "Mortal Kombat" orignally meant a tournament.

I can understand why they altered from the original tournament. It made the story far more interesting, but since this should be an intirely new MK it should start with a tournament for introduction and nostalgia perposes.
