About Me

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about.

I'm typing this from my phone so I apologize. My friends and I were playing some KOTH last night and we were thoroughly enjoying ourselves. We were using characters we rarely play with and just having fun, win or lose.(I went on a 13 game win streak, so that was awesome) the 3 of us were legitimately trying to actually use character, learn kombos etc.

Well then our other friend jumped in after about an hour or so, and obviously had to wait. I must tell you that we actually pressured him to get the game as he isn't a fighting game fan other than Super Smash Bros. So he pick Ermac just because he "didn't know any of the fighters" and he straight up button mashed his way to a win. Absolutely whipped my ass and I am by no means a great fighter, but I can honestly say that I am "better" than all my friends. He continues to just button mash and whips everyone's ass. He won 8 in a row before we all got offline and went to bed. Mind you, this was he first ever 8 matches online...ever. I was pissed and somewhat bitter. I understand the button mashing, but I felt that took away from the fun for us and kinda devalued everything we had done previously. I know I need to get better and focus on getting better with a few characters, but we seriously couldn't stop him. I changed my play styles and nothing seemed to work.

So my question is, what do some of you guys do or what tips do you have to defeat "button mashers" He is a really good friend and I want him to keep playing with us and we are kinda responsible for him getting it, but I really don't want to hear him run his mouth about how "good he is" at it.

How do people define a button masher? Is it someone who spams the same moves over and over again? Because I've encountered quite a few people online who had very high win counts and they mostly all used the same characters (Scorpion & Johnny) and just spammed their way through the matches. I lost like 20 times in a row just because I didn't wanna seem like a pussy for quitting after getting my ass wooped... plus I play for fun, not necessarily to win (especially since I suck so I'm used to it). I guess I'd like to read some tips as well.

Look at the monster you guys created!!! That's hilarious lmaoooo you guys pressured him to get the game and he comes in and kicks ass grin

Anyway your best bet is to just keep playing him, you should eventually see some sort of pattern in what he is doing even if he is button mashing, and then you can find a way to win.

In my case he was literally just hitting buttons as fast as possible and was somehow pulling together 3-6 hit combos. He had no idea any of the inputs and yet was still winning. Spamming is diff than button mashing.

Sometimes a blind squirrel finds eight nuts in a row.

Other times, maybe just learn to block?
