I think you might be right about the number of characters and DLC but I think you're wrong about the returing being all mk9 guys I think we will see a couple of 3d characters.

I am not sure who is certain but I would say the following have as good a chance as anyone; Noob, Mileena, Reiko, Tanya, Havik (as boss), Baraka and smoke as DLC and the rest is anyone's guess

I think these are certain or have a very high chance:

Worst case scenario is one isn't in (most likely Johnny), but I'd eat my shoe if we don't get at least four out of five here.

We'll probably only get 1 or 2 of these at launch.

Cyrax and Smoke are DLC shoe-ins if not on the main roster. Smoke was very popular in MK9 online and Cyrax is probably the most iconic MK3 character and a huge darling in the MK9 tournament scene, plus the obligatory robot archetype.

The rest have no chance, really. Baraka has a chance as DLC, and maybe Kabal. But Stryker, Sindel, Sheeva, Nightwolf and Rain are not popular enough to get squeezed in here. Sektor is less popular than Cyrax and I don't see two robots in the game, plus Cassie has a missile variation. Jade is practically deconfirmed by a Kitana variation as well. Noob is popular but unlikely given that signs point to Bi-Han being a Sub-Zero again, and his moveset being picked apart by Quan Chi (portal variation) and Scorpion (demon assist variation).

Nah, they've already said there will be an MK4 character in addition to Quan, and I believe two more from MKDA-MKA. Mileena, Jax and Sonya seem to be sure things at this point. Cage and Liu I'm unsure of. And I'll also say at least 4 more new characters, including Erron Black and Bow Guy.

I really don't think we will be seeing cage, Sonya, Jax, Liu and Shang in this one maybe some of them in story but I think they will be sitting it out as playable characters there is no real need for any of them Liu kang is boring and mk needs a new a champion I am hoping Takeda steps up to the plate and takes his mantel as champion (of course providing he his playable in the game which I think is highly likely) as for the other they have been replaced by cassie and jacqui no requirement to bring the parents back as well out with the old in with the new I say!!! Here's hoping anyway!

The only MK9ers I feel like will certainly return are Mileena, Sonya, Jax, and Kenshi. Mileena, Sonya, and Kenshi have obvious story relevance, and Jax has been really, really heavily suggested.

Johnny and Liu might make a playable appearance, but I wouldn't guarantee it. I feel like Shang is unlikely.

But then, what the hell do I know.

I think you should go read where Ed confirmed we'd see some 3D era characters in the roster including another MK4 character besides Quan Chi.

Sonya, Jax, Johnny, Liu Kang and Mileena will be in for sure IMO. And I don't mean as DLC.

I think this was an earlyish interview. With the progression of things over past couple months, I'm banking that NRS cut those post-trilogy characters to add in more MK9. It's a gutting state of affairs, but I'm banking on these 9 making the cut now. Too many hints/ladder references/character mentions in commercials etc, all adds up to these characters. I mean seriously, who could you remove from the ones mentioned?

Dude that makes no sense. You don't quantify characters unless you've put the work in, and if you've put that much work in you don't throw it out to do more work. The fact there are so few of those characters making it in means they thought long and hard about how they were going to do it. There is obviously a plan in line for how they are marketing and revealing the characters. They're accumulating the casuals while keeping the hardcore fans in baited breath. It's smart, and it will pay off, and you will see later era characters. I promise.

Goro is DLC, there's only been 13 roster slots taken.

I just hear it offhandedly mentioned a lot, but I never saw it, and I'd like to know exactly what it was he said (his exact wording, that is to say).

The closest I can find is this interview from TRMK, I'm not sure if this is the specific one but he talks about it here.

Ed Boon: You will definitely see a Mortal Kombat 4 character, I believe that's the first time I've said that. You will also see some of the later game's fighters. You'll also see cameo's in the story mode. Some really fun ones.

So he confirms one MK4 character (which he has later clarified as not being Quan Chi) and says later games fighter(s), plural, so there are at least two. Then he goes out of his way to talk about cameos, implying that the previously mentioned characters will be playable.

Question, do you think they consider Fujin, a MK4 character or a Mythologies character? if its the latter then its possible they add Shinnok and Fujin for example, and add Reiko from MK4.

I would guess they go by the numbered entries and consider Fujin MK4, but his chances aren't looking so hot anyway based on the challenge tower thing, so everyone else's odds have definitely gone up in the wake of that.

It's also worth noting he says "a MK4 character" and not "one MK4 character" and that was before we knew Quan Chi would be a playable character.

Yeah... I'm pretty positive that Mythologies and MK4 got plotted out side by side, and were more or less companion games... plot wise (one being a much earlier prequel setting up the other)... so it's completely fair to call Fujin, Shinnok and Quan Chi MK4 characters.

Mythologies is more or less MK4's Konquest mode... except it's its own game on a separate disc. But it was an early prototype for the later type of MK story telling (a long story mode on the side, that fleshes out the plot setup for the arcade ladder fight tournament)

MK4 character will be Reiko has to be he was by far the best newbie from that game so much potential with him! Hopefully he screws over Mileena and takes control of outworld for himself which is entirely possible since i remember reqding earlier on that we will see Kotal Kahns rise and fall in this game indicating that he will rise to power then fall from power!

I think this is one of the best, most level headed predictions I've come across on this site. While I don't necessarily like all of it I do agree with almost all of it. That said tho I think Fujin has a shot at being the character that's requested so much he eventually becomes DLC. I also think Sektor has a better chance than Cyrax, but this is a total hunch with zero back up and the logical guess is for sure Cyrax. News on Sektor has just been too quiet, I dunno. I also don't know WTF to think about Noob because I think Sub Zero is either Kuai or both like in MK9. Might add him to the 50/50 list but that's probably still too generous for him.

If we have less than 30 including dlc then im gonna be pissed. This game has the potential to be around for a long time n with so many klassics being left out,they could keep expanding n make it last longer.
