3DCG intro. Two sides of the story in storymode! One from the Heroes perspective and one from the Villains. Everyone should get a turn. Keep the cutscenes, but please change it so that we're not stuck with one character for a chapter. It forces the writers to put a character in fights they don't need to be in.

Mortal Kombat has a stronger story than any other fighting game series.

Sure, it's had bumps in the road, but not enough so that the story cannot be discussed, especially in great detail.

Of all the discussions I've had about fighting games, Mortal Kombat is the only one that I actually spend more time talking about story events and character biographies. I seldom do that with Soulcalibur, and I never do that with Tekken, Dead Or Alive, or Darkstalkers. And Super Smash Bros. isn't story-based at all.

Even with Armageddon, a story could be told. If not for Armageddon, we wouldn't have the amazing alternate story that is Mortal Kombat (2011). Before we be quick to assume the worst, let's wait and see what they have for MK10.

I think the biggest problem comes from the fact that death is completely meaningless in MK. How can you take a story seriously if the ultimate consequence has no actual consequence? That's where it falls apart for me anyway. And because it's a fighting game, obviously they want to keep a core roster to appease fans.

Even though Sub-Zero is "dead" we know he'll be in the next game. Granted, MK10's story actually makes sense for having dead characters come back (For once) but it's still a problem for me.

Biggest problem with Armageddon was that it was canon. It should've been what Tekken Tag Tournament is to Tekken. Which is a non-canon love letter to fans. Instead they brought everybody back, and wrote themselves into a corner.

THANK YOU!!!

How in the fucking hell was it so hard for NRS to grasp this?

Well, with this, everyone is going to assume that it NEEDS to follow the fourth story, word for word, event for event, yadda yadda. However, this doesn't need to be. I hope they change things so that it's not an exact replica of the story. (Granted that it won't be seeing how majority of the characters from the fourth are dead and whatnot). I will wait before I criticize (good or bad) of the story. That is if the game is going to be an adventure or a fighting game.

The solution to MK's story problem involves having a different mindset about how to approach the story. Games like MK9 largely focus on a "good vs. evil" story where the good guys are "here" and the bad guys are "there". There is also the issue of using Idiot Plots as the basis for the main story of the game. And as stated before, not giving a real sense of consequence to death/resurrection takes a lot out of the story.. The way characters have been portrayed are kind of dumbed-down versions, hence the laughable way characters like Kitana and Mileena were portrayed.

It's true. That doesn't say a lot to the most of the people however.

Jesus Christ! This is actually a well thought out idea! Perhaps people may even consider petitioning for a Charles Manson wing in the museum of tolerance.

I actually wouldn't mind a game with storymodes told from each side. At least that way characters like Baraka and Reptile would have more to do than just being punching bags.

I still remember reading the Game Informer issue about MKA and where the future of the series was heading.

Boy were they wrong....

I'm pretty sure the statement "Wiping the slate clean" was emphasized multiple times during that interview.

I really think that the storyline will start out like MK4, I think it will go in a radically different direction. This would allow Netherrealm not to be locked into previous canon and do whatever they want. Like a comic book universe, No on really stays dead in Mortal Kombat. And I doubt that will be something that will ever change. Though some people want characters to stay dead, they will likely be the same people sending Netherrealm hate mail when their favorite character is not in the game.

What if the story was told like in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron? It didn't always focus on one side per chapter, like that mission were we played as Starscream then switched to Grimlock mid-chapter? Essentially we play the character based on the situation/event rather than events based on the character.
