My best guess would be a yes as well OR That's actually before Shinnok gets freed again, maybe Liu Kang and Kung Lao are sent to find and get Shinnok's amulet for Quan Chi. But if you look in the Cage family trailer you see Young Sonya Blade fighting Quan Chi(Or at least getting ready to fight him) I assumed that'd be in the first chapter but we don't see it anywhere in the first chapter. I think after Shinnok gets imprisoned the war doesn't end but in fact it'll take a couple of chapters to end, maybe we'll get to play as Kenshi and see how he freed Scorpion and we'll get to see the cutscene with Kung Lao saying "I serve Shinnok".

Also if I remember correctly in the Shaolin trailer we see Liu Kang and Quan Chi attacking some special forces members(basically they look like the army of superman from injustice and it's mostly Liu Kang attacking and Quan Chi chilling behind him) And if you look closely Quan Chi is wearing his costume from when we first saw him back in October. So that would mean it's happening in the present time(25 years into the future). It's a bit confusing but I bet Kung Lao and Liu Kang get restored later down the line and might even actually only be restored near/at the end of the game.

This time travel is confusing as fuck...

but remember, the timeline isn't linear, so that scene where Kung Lao says "I serve Shinnok, in the Netherrealm" may be a flashback before Shinnok gets banned into the amulet (wouldn't make sense if Kung said he worked for Shinnok if Shinnok is inside the amulet, would it? I think he would say he works for Quan Chi instead).

The leaked image of Jax has the Cages with their older appearances but he himself looks older and we don't know Jacqui's age compared to Cassie's. Last time I checked, Jacqui is not part-revenant and I'm guessing she was an infant during MK2011. Sub-Zero also had to be alive when Team Cassie were teenagers and Sub looks older too. The Edenians are shown fighting Team Cassie but Kitana has to be restored afterwards for being playable and having a different outfit.

My guess is, Chapter 2 of the storyline is someone hunting down Quan Chi after Shinnok's defeat and him using Kung Lao and Liu Kang as human shields (as pretty much seen on the Shaolin trailer)

Just because Shinnok was defeated it doesn't mean the heroes were restored.
Some are likely freed later on like Kitana.

The Shinnok from chapter 1 was his "clone" from MKA that Jonny claimed to have defeated...Real Shinnok is still out there.

He received a mysterious power-up and didn't beat Shinnok whatsoever, just distracted him. Chapter 1 is also far from the last we'll see of Shinnok. I don't know why people are so hung up about this. I can only imagine the reaction when he does get flat out beaten later on...

I don't think that's the direction that's the direction this is going on at all. Shinnok being imprisoned in his amulet is the reason he doesn't become a threat again until it resurfaces 25 years later; Shinnok not even being in it would make a lot of plot entirely pointless. Also there's a lot of awesome stuff Shinnok did in this first chapter that I'll be sorely disappointed about if he didn't actually do any of it.

It's funny you say that, because that was exactly what I had said in another thread. Just a distraction. But apparently the chapter 1 leak revealed that he bested him. Which I haven't read, so I assumed I was wrong.

I don't mind if Shinnok gets flat out destroyed later on tbh. Just as long as his run is longer than the last minute of a single chapter.

I'm not sure what this "Chapter 1 leak" is that apparently needs to be read, but we have footage of the entire first chapter. Shinnok's still standing and far from defeated after the fight with him.

There are so many surprises waiting for us ! I'm sure of it !
