Mortal Kombat 9 introduced us to a split timeline where Raiden tried to prevent Armageddon. While he was successful, his action had dire consequences that we're now living in MKX.

Now I haven't played the story for MKX yet, but after seeing a couple intros and a couple of endings, I figured I'd make a topic! Specifically, one of Scorpion's mirror match intros have one of the ninjas exclaiming that they are "the champion of the Elder Gods". In Mortal Kombat Deception, this was a plotline for Scorpion after he was thrown into a soulnado by the two oni, Moloch and Drahmin in his Deadly Alliance ending.

Shinnok's mirror match intro has one of the fallen Elder God's stating that they should have killed the other at the pyramid. This of course, is in direct reference to the Pyramid of Argus, the local for the events of Mortal Kombat Armageddon.

Next up, we have a couple of endings that give us a bit of a viewpoint into what "could've been" or even "what could be". Kitana's states that she's able to see the future of the alternate timeline had Raiden not intervened, and we see that somehow she and the forces of light were able to prevent Armageddon. Next up, Kenshi and Takeda's endings tie together and show that they go on the hunt for Suchin's (Takeda's mother) killer. This has them freeing Taven from his sleep (since Armageddon no longer occurs, he would've most likely stayed asleep) and hunting Daegon. Daegon has been frequently referenced in the Mortal Kombat X comic but now we see that it's possible Taven may still have some sort've role to play.

Now keep in mind, endings are typically non-canon, save for a few, however elements of these endings can be used as a starting point for character development come MK11. Also, not all character interactions in versus mode are canon, and might be just there for a fun reference to previous games. But this is all about speculation, so let's hear it!

Is it possible that we might be visiting the "doomed" Armageddon universe at some point in the future? Who knows! What do you guys think of a possible multiverse setup for the next MK (or even being introduced in the comics)?

We'll never see it in the games. They've been adamant about this new timeline totally replacing the old one despite the retarded MK9 story mode.

Might be explored in the comics if they last that long.

I think the intros are mostly just non canon nods/references to the old timeline that also are there to make some of the mirror matches make sense.

As for the story actually going in a multiverse story, im usually pretty content with whatever the team does with MK, so if that's what they were going to do id roll with it, but if it was up to me id stick with the one we are at right now for a while.
Kitana's ending revealed they survived Armageddon. Earthrealm got messed up but Kitana rallied everyone and killed Kahn. Then they all took a vacation to Acapulco.

I would love a multiverse story. Have it like Crisis and merge them into the best aspects of the timelines and get another slightly fresh start that doesn't jump 25 years into the future immediately. Character variations could be alt universe versions of themselves, but that'd be too much work.
