Ever since MKDA, MK seems to be in slow motion. While the graphics and game mechanics were visibly improved, the air jugle combos and other adjustments have considerably slowed the game down.
What if the next MK game had a speed bar?? By holding the L2 button, for example, you're character would be able to speed his attack motion, his or her walking motion, and even projectile speed.
However, the speed bar will runout, so you may want to use it sparringly.
Any thoughts???

This is a great idea, and future MK's do need a speed increase. But I think that this is something that will work better for some characters than others, rather than having it as a standard feature for all. Jade for example, badly needs her old super speed, and it would be a great touch for some other fighters, but it just wouldn't feel right for a bigger powerhouse character.
I think a a short time speed increase should be one of those little extra power ups every character had in MKDA. I liked the idea that they had these extra little skills, and would like to see that brought back and taken further, with other new skills.

A lot of the speed problems come from lack of fluidity and movement. Rather than a speed meter just to simply bandaid the problems, MK should look to mocap more fluid attacks as well as give players more movement options. Things like forward dash, forward crouch dash, cancelling forward dashing and crouch dashing into sidesteps, a sidestep as well as a sidewalk system, etc. would helpd dramatically in fighting speed. Make some of the movement also be actual stances like other games where you can perform different moves off of a forward dash or different moves off of a sidestep to the left or right, etc.
In this way, the fluidity of all the attacks, the fluidity of transitioning between moving and attack as well as dodging attacks and attacking means a much faster game overall.

HDTran is right. It's not simply a matter of adding a feature that speeds up moves, projectiles etc (plus, I could only imagine the technical issues that would cause. I could see that option used in adding a ton of cheese to the MK fighting system), it's in the poorly motion captured moves and the lack of dashing or quick sidesteps and other such smaller things that add up quickly that make the newer MK games slow.
Whatever they do though, I hope they don't bring back the run button to "speed" the game. Not sure how they'd even try to do that, but I bet they've thought about it.

how about take a page out of RAW VS. SMACKDOWN 2006 and use a momentum meter. It works like you character gets tired the more risque moves you do. The more momentum you have the harder your hits, but the bigger the hits you take and make the more momentum you loose. I dunno.
It took me some time to get used to the slow moving style in MKDA...only 10 minutes I think, the new game play style was something so different and fantastic for me, that I loved it a lot, and didn’t care anymore for the run button or the lost speed. Besides, once you got to hand-hand kombat or with the weapons, the fighting was fast.
However, after MKD, I do miss it. It would be nice to see the run button back, and a touch of faster elements involved. A new speed element.
Good ideas.

No, no, you completely misunderstand me. It's absolutely not a run button. I should have made that more clear in my post. Its something that just increases the speed of a character for a short period of time. It does run out fairly quickly.
BTW it's only in MK to add to the flavor of quick short burst kombat. Not a running button at all.

Or they could just speed up gameplay entirely.
