Wonder if Smoke will return. Revealing his powers as an enenra?

Don't mean to be a jerk but Enera isn't cannon dude. Arcade ending were all goofy fun IMO. To me he always another "____mancer" he just used smoke and it wasn't explained. I always assumed his kind are natives of Outworld just like the Cyromancers... and makes more sense. Why would the Lin Kuei recruit ONE person with unique abilities?

His ending pretty much answers the questions that Smoke was looking for.

Unless the ending directly contradicts another ending or is just some completely out-of-the-blue what-if, it's canon. That's how it's been since Deadly Alliance, bro.

Hey Frost is a prime example of endings being cannon.

Dreadful ending, if I must say.
But I would like this story to stay with Smoke, it would be much more interesting than having him be what he's been in the past.

We didn't have a story mode that tells us exactly how events took place in Deadly Alliance, Brah. The endings used to be a possible preview of what will happen next, now their just one-offs for fun. I'll admit I did kinda like the King Jerod/Ermac one. Nightwolfs was fun but more in a silly way.

lol.
Given he has been consistently in the top 10 of the official "Favorite Character Used Over All Modes" lists for all ports of MK9 (and was in the top 5 when the game was in its prime) I would say his odds of returning are pretty high.
The real question is will he be human form or cyber? If the rumors that this game will be about multiple realities crossing over are true then they might as well split the two into separate entities while the window is open, IMO.

I expect the Enenra to be canon. Its a good explanation of a really cool power and I'd love to see it incorporated into the story. If Smoke is now a servant of the netherrealm, maybe he discovers his demonic side and initially goes a bit Noob-esque, trying to usurp Shinnok but eventually recovers his humanity and turns into a great ally?

The above isn't really a problem. Just don't adapt Japanese myth straight into MK myth. Done.

It's not new for any fantasy setting to take words from real world lore and change it to fit their own setting. For example, the god of thunder is called Raijin in real Japanese lore, not Raiden as he is called in Mortal Kombat.
I would love to see more of Smoke... HUMAN Smoke, as in, NOT a cyber ninja (which he hopefully will never be again). And yes, I'd love to see his more demonic side as well, especially now that he is under Quan Chi's might.

Well, technically, sometimes there is a Raiden in japanese folklore, but not ours. Technically they have been mispronouncing his name since day one. Not to mention the RaYden...
Tobias and boon never really did real research, only superficial one. That is not a problem, though. Only a missed opportunity.

True, there is SOMETHING called "raiden" in Japanese, but it is basically just the name for thunder and lightning, not some physical manifestation of a god as that would be Raijin.
But I like that a fantasy world takes something from the real world and makes it fit into their own lore. ^^

Also the Japanese god of thunder and lightning Raijin looks like
Raiden's outfit has a Chinese feel to it. Probably because it was based off Big Trouble in Little China's Lightning
And Reiko and Hotaru are Japanese girl names so I think the "Enenra's only be seen by pure of hearts" cannot apply in the MK world

It seems more people want Smoke (Cyborg) than Tremor and Reiko and Havik. check poll... click this to vote). This poll's been around many MK forums and there's been over 500 votes so far.

Smoke has been my favorite character since MK2.. I want him to stay human.. The Enenra aspect is a great explanation for his power though... It would be cool to see it come out as a Fatality much like Liu Kangs Dragon Morph.
And to whoever said "Why would the Lin Kuei recruit ONE person with unique powers?" The Grandmaster isn't a Cryomancer, Sektor is good with flame, Cryax is good with bombs... Examples of single members with unique talent. If they find some one with a unique talent that would benefit the clan, why wouldn't they recruit them?

I hate being the party pooper of this board lol I really do but... Save for the Gods nobody in MK has unique one of a kind super hero abilities exclusive to them. Sub is Cyromancer, there are others. Scorp is a specter, he can't be the first.
Until Enera came along the assumption was his kind is from Outworld. Being...I dunno if there's a word for "SMOKEMancers" lol that made plenty of sense to me. Tremor was never given an explanation... so we once again assumed his race was another group of "earth...mancers? lol. I always assumed there were three or more "mancer" races from Outworld.
It's just (yes I'm a smoke fan he's my avatar) Smokes ability is not that unique to say "he has a demon inside him" what?! He creates smoke and can turn into smoke. Sub zero can make ice and turn himself into ice. They are both from the same clan who's origins reside in Outword....Ya they just seem like two different "arch-types" in the Lin Kuei. The third being explosive/ tech experts. (Cyrax and Sektor... even before the incentive)
Enera was a fun ending but was very clearly thrown in out of the blue. Boon hasn't been waiting for a decade to reveal Enera.

That's not true. Mythologies stated that the Lin Kuei inducts people with X-Men-style genetic mutant powers all the time.
Although, I will agree that there's no such thing as "one of a kind". Even among superheroes in comics, NOBODY has a power that somebody else doesn't also have.
Also, the Enenra thing HAS to be canon because his MK9 bio and ending are CONNECTED to one another, the bio hints at what the ending is going to reveal by establishing that he's had amnesia since he was young and the ending then explains WHY he has amnesia. And bios are always canon.
The only part that's likely to not happen from the ending is Smoke FINDING OUT that he's an Enenra. THAT part can't happen because he didn't defeat Shao Kahn and get his memories back, he died and went to Hell instead.
So he's definitely a smoke-demon trapped in the form of a human who was sacrificed to a cult as a kid, he just doesn't know it yet.

Took a long time to associate the Classic Sub Zero Noob Saibot.
And Enenra Origin increases the range of characters originated Netherrealm, something necessary for the next game. Something that would lead to a Smoke invez the development of eternal repetition. And something needed to franchise (characters beyond Earth-Outworld-Edenia.

Never knew about the mythologies stuff but to be fair we've never seen these guys in an actual MK game.
Good call on the Bio, I never picked up on that. If they wanna do it, that's fine. It just screams last minute writing to me. There was a pretty logical explanation IMO it was just never outright stated. If we get some new smoke design and it actually pays off it could be cool.... So in that regard, I'd like NRS to prove me wrong on this being a bad idea.
Smoke does have a bit of an identity crisis. Between being a cyborg, Ninja and Noobs BFF maybe some smoke demon thing could work and make him stand out... I'm just not willing to bet money on it lol

To add to what you said I held a human vs cyber Smoke poll while MK9 was in development, which showed both versions have a very strong following. Human had the lead with roughly 60% of the votes. However between the poll only receiving a bit over 500 votes and the likelihood human Smoke had some try-something-different hype going for him at the time it's likely much closer.
As I said previously if they are doing a reality crossover its probably time to split them into two separate characters ala Seigfried & Nightmare. They both have a lot of fans, movesets unique from each other, and the convoluted aspect of it will have already be set into motion across the entire story anyways.
