Definitely. I've even got a fatality in mind for a Shadow Priest: He begins to pray, and the victim finds himself/herself bleeding to death.

Gameplay wise, they should always be floating.

I think some things are just better left as the background elements that they are.

Yeah, Shang Tsung is the head shadow priest or at least was, I'm not exactly sure in the new timeline.

I’d like to see the Shadow Priests involved in the fighting aspect of MK at some point, along with the wolf masked guards.

Maybe not a character, but as a secret fight.

i'm conflicted on this lol...a part of me would like to play as them, but then again i appreciate them for being just background elements in MK.... It was kind of cool fighting them in Shaolin Monks though....but that game was rather different compared to the rest of MK....I'm game if they do add them and I'll also be alright if they choose to leave them as they are

They would probably work better as hidden fights.
