Shall we discuss the levels?

posted06/12/2014 02:14 AM (UTC)bythisiscourageGot to see the cold forest and a new ship/dock map. The ship map looks very cool with a lot going on in the background: rolling waves, "dead mermaids/seapeople/zombies-things" popping out of the water. Very interesting indeed.
Level design has always been a cool part of MK and now we have interacting levels as well!
I want to point your attention to the trailer at 40-47 seconds you can see (on the dock level) as the new characters battle it out the barrel in the background glows white on its borders indicating it can be thrown. At 48 seconds the bug lady decides to utilize the barrel and toss it at the big guy/little gal character. Very cool.
On the cold forest map scorpion utilizes a large log and breaks it over subbys face.
I want this thread to discuss any and all things you noticed about the new maps during the upcoming e3 event and the recent trailer. There are always hidden goodies in the map design Lets see what you can find! EDIT: and also discuss what you think of the new maps!

I took a really shitty picture of the sea corpse, but I think it's clear enough to say it's just a corpse and not reptile.

There's also a battlefield/crowded arena (not sure which) that you can briefly see during Bug Lady's fatality on Sub-Zero.
I really like that Nethership dock level, though, and the corpses washing up on the pier.

NIce catch, I didn't even notice that.
Out of the forest stage and the dock stage, the dock stage is by far my favorite. There's just so much going on in it, the waves, and bodies floating around in the water, it's an amazing level. Netherrealm seems to have a knack for making really fucking good stages.

I noticed a couple other things on the dock level.. which is just spectacular i might add.
@1:02 bug lady uses ship to left of map to jump behind the big dude. This is a great way to incorporate level integration and get rid of those pesky imaginary wall boundaries that I hate so much.
@1:30 The big dude actually picks up one of the floating corpses and flings it at LadyBug (she is referred to as LadyBug in the trailer so could be her name..) the corpse hits her and explodes in a green bloody mess... Interestingly enough we know one other character that bleeds green. Not saying that it is Reptile in any way shape or form but perhaps the wrecked vessel was transporting Saurian passengers?

That's an excellent observation. The closeup of the body, although clearly not Reptile, does absolutely seem to bear Saurian traits. They're supposed to have been completely extinct for a long, long time; more fuel for the 'alternate worlds' fire perhaps...

Ha, Maybe it's Chameleon's corpse

mmm indeed. Perhaps this points to an elaborated story for reptile which I would be all about.
..Maybe in this elaborated story he has to wear hide beneath fake skin.. haha a guy can dream cant he?

I like the concepts so far, but I'm not a big fan of the dull colour pallete they have been using on the arenas in the past few games. Everything is yellow/brown. I hope we get some more colourful arenas (that doesn't mean they can't still be "dark").

Infinite Retro made a video speculating about MKX. I agree with his all out vision of incorporating every background from MK1 to Armageddon into MKX. He also makes a good point on DLC as well. NetherRealm Studio must learn from MK2011 and this time produce as much DLC as possible to sell this game. I admit those new stages are very suited for the MK universe but I personally want to see 10+ stage fatalities minimum for this game. Correct me if I am wrong but I think in MK2011 there were 9 stage fatalities not including PS Vita exclusives; so MKX should have a solid amount of stage fatalities as well.
A link to his video is below. I feel I should warm you the song in his video has sexual lyrics.

The Cove is a devastatingly amazing stage. It has literally blown me away. Right now it's my favorite.
Market Place seems fun and the snow forest is great, but I'm hoping the rest of the arenas are more in the vein of Cove.

All three are 10/10 IMO, so glad that the character models still look outstanding in the Outworld Marketplace for how bright it is. MK9's bright stages weren't the best for the graphics.
