So, for starters, Secert character are like Noob, Jade, Reptile and Smoke while Hidden characters are like Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan Chi.
Anyway, how many characters will be secert or hidden? For some reason, i'm begininng to think that the 3D characters are all just hidden characters since we haven't heard much of them. As for Secert, I don't know. Many you could find Scorpion but he only uses Spears and Teleports. I don't know.

I say combine both

Make sure the roster slot doesn't appear on the select screen though.

There's no indication that the there is an unlockable character

find them, MK1 & 2 style, and beat them to unlock them.

If there are any secret characters in MKX its possible they will be leaked/known before the game is released, like CyberSub/Quan Chi in MK2011.It wasnt a character, but the last true secret in a MK game was the Boss Rush Mode in MK Shaolin Monks that nobody knew it was hidden in the game.

Honestly... I doubt there will be secret Characters. We haven't had a proper secret character since MK 1-3.. Ones that are unlocked by beating the game don't count.... and as of late, it seems like "secret characters" have been replaced by DLC characters..

I think one of the hidden characters is a brand new person that we don't know about

Yeah id like a combination of the two. A secret fighter that you can only fight under certain circumstances, and if you beat him/her you unlock him/her. Unplayable secret fighters are fine too though.

Hoping Noob reprises his role as a secret/hidden character maybe he makes a few sneaky appearances in the story then is unlockable via a hard to obtain secret fight!

The problem with super secret characters is NRS' embrace of the tournament scene. If the character is in the game then they need to be reasonably unlockable so TOs can have any entrant's potential characters available. But hey, in UMK3 hidden characters were unlockable in 5 minutes, so Im not sure what the big deal is. It's never been THAT difficult.

Eh I hope NRS wouldn't go out of their way to make it super easy just for tournament players.

I hope it's a smaller super fast version of Blaze and we fight him on the MK9 Neatherelm (HELL) Stage . It's in Issue#9 of the Comic.

Also Noob on say Goro's Lair Stage since it's almost certain that it will return

Oh man, an actual secret character that you unlock by beating would be awesome.

I would start hyperventilating.

They always could allow players to unlock characters right away with money. Real money. Micropayment, in short.

That way, people from the tournament scene can waste money to get characters they'd get for free if they were more patient.

That sounds scummy as hell. I don't think you realize how much effort goes into organizing a tournament. You have to have multiple setups, all updated with the correct hotfixes/patches, and have every character unlocked, (which you had to beat MK9 to unlock two of them). Some organizers like KombatNetwork pay out of their own pocket for set-ups and that shit isn't cheap. Especially with MKX being on new gen hardware and consoles being up to $400 each that can take quite a toll. NRS is already giving them a harder time than necessary with Goro being a pre-order bonus. But you want to force them to spend more because they aren't "patient".

Good shit, dude.

Hey, if micropayments are optional, then I don't see what the problem is. I still get to unlock stuff the hard way.

It'd be something else if micropayments became the only way to unlock characters, arenas, etc, all because of lazy players. Said lazy players were who I brought up in my previous post. Those people you brought up, on the other hand, seem to have a legitimate need for micropayments, but mostly because of those tournament-obsessed players. The tournament scene truly sounds sad, to me.

I understand some of them only play the game for tournaments, but I don't see why they couldn't just unlock the character the same way everyone else would.

Its not a matter of the individual unlocking it without micro-transactions. I myself have been a tournament player in past games and fully plan to be for MK X and I still enjoyed the story and the tower ect. ect. The issue lies in the hands of the TO's. Say I am holding a tournament of the vanilla version of the game (no dlc) but there is a secret character unlockable by doing certain tasks within the game. I would need to complete the task for each of the consoles being used. Now on top of all the other planning and effort that goes into holding a tournament it can prove to be tough. Especially if there is ever a last minute change where a console is not operating properly or a patch won't dl ect. Imagine having to beat MK 9 story on every console you used so you could have quan chi and CSZ available.

It's not a matter of being lazy just a lot of time and frankly kind of boring to have to beat the story say 10 times to have it on each console.

I seem to remember Ed saying that he wanted the boss to be playable this time. So if the final boss is not Liu Kang or Shinnok, then whoever he/she is will probably be the unlockable/secret character.
