I've been thinking about something after I watched the trailer and I haven't seen anyone else comment on it. So those multiple versions of each character is obviously gonna be in terms of their fighting style.

Scoprion was seen in the trailer performing a bunch of new special moves, according to his stance/fighting style. They gave him some cool stuff like fighting with his swords mostly, but I was annoyed by a few others. He now has a bunch of new specials like summoning a demon to immobilize his opponent, a fireball, a torpedo where he thrusts himself into the opponent. It looks like he even uses his spear in a way Mavado would use his elastic whips. Now that will of course make Sporpion fans happy; I just can't help but think "Did he really need all that?" though.

Scorpion was always the most used character in MK, since Boon has a serious crush on him. It was obvious in MK9; he was one of the easiest characters to pick up and he had a good amount of specials to counter almost everyone. The spear of course (which could lead to a full combo), a teleport, a low-hit, an air throw, an unblockable. In the past he was given a bunch of other moves as well, like the parry one he had in MKvsDC, the backflip kick (which he had in MK9 but as part of one of his combos), and a flamethrower he had in MK4.

So why bother give him so many NEW moves, even though he was already a well-rounded character? The demon-summoning move he had in the trailer would be such an amazing move for Sareena for example. It would make so much sense to give it to a character like her, since she is also a demon from the Netherrealm. Why not try to give all those cool new moves to some of the under-developed characters, instead of Scorpion who was already fine as he was. I don't wanna sound like a brat that just hates Scorpion, I just think that instead of having him do all those new stuff out of nowhere, why not try to just tweak his moveset a bit? That's all he needed. Why give him a torpedo all of a sudden? Why not give that to characters like Tanya or Ashrah who already had a similar special in the past? And that fireball...like we didn't have 20 characters that had that already.

I was just a bit thrown off by that, when I watched the trailer. Am I the only one that felt that way?furious

I can't complain when new/additional tool are given to a character. Ed always talks about changing things up, keeping the action fresh. We've seen such a small slice of the game, and god knows if things will change...I say sit back, relax, and see what NRS is offering. Way too soon to complain, IMO.

You are coming off that way a little bit. Can't make these assumptions without knowing A.) who is in the final build of the game B.) every move for each character C.) which moves will be deleted during the balancing phase.

I'm a little concerned because his counter animation seems to be exactly the same as Smoke's. Means either we're on the verge of another round of animation swapping between characters, or Smoke's not going to have that move this time...if he's in. Or it's just a placeholder animation.

I get what you're saying and I also thought it might be too soon to make assumptions. It was just my first thought when I saw Scorpion do all those cool stuff. I mean of course they might make all those post-MK3 characters look and play awesome. And it's likely that they will, I am not really complaining. I just thought that some of the new moves they gave to Scorpion would fit some other characters way more.

That's what I was also worried about. That they are gonna give him stuff other characters had in MK9. Kinda like what they did with Kitana in MKvsDC when they gave her Mileena's roll. I reeeeaaaally hope Smoke is in and if he is not, Scorpion better not borrow his specials. They finally got it right with him in MK9. It would be a shame if his signature moves were given to others if he doesn't make it.

On the other hand, the notion of people copping off Smoke's moves for once is fucking HI-LARIOUS.
