I think the next MK for the new consoles (PS3, etc) should be a remake of MK1...
It should have excellent graphics (imagine Shang Tsung shapeshifting in excellent 3d graphics!) and gameplay. It has an excellent storyline, balanced fighters (their appearance could be changed a bit though, so that the ninjas would not look the same) and a great sub-boss, Goro!
The characters are not many, so a few more could be added as playable characters, for example Jax, Mavado and another girl, maybe a new one. These characters can easily fit into the known MK1 storyline. Reptile can still be a secret character, as well as Ermac (he used to appear as a glitch in some versions of MK1).
A few more arenas can be added.
The most important thing though, is to make the gameplay feel smoother and better... I think bigger character models (taking up more screen space) are needed like in Tekken and Virtua Fighter games. Also the fighting system should be like the one used in tekken or VF, with the exception of special moves, which should remain unchanged. No weapon styles, no 2 or 3 styles, just 1 detailed and precise fighting style, very different for each character. Every other thing should be ultra realistic (motion, animation, body proportions).
This would be the best game ever, and would give the guys at Midway a fresh start with everyone's favorite characters. Let's just hope they have the right ideas and they won't mess things up once more like they did in the last few MK games...

Well, why not remake Mk special forces too? I would prefer them to take the time they have to make something entirely new, a game like Final Fantasy VII deserves a remake with reason , but MK1? it was good in 1992 , now move on with all the greatness that is Armageddon, best characters endings ever!

I think they should remake MK2 instead, well I don't mind a MK1 remake either but there would not be to many unlockables.

MK2 was alreadly remade into an adventure game called shaolin monks. I think it be cool to see a remake... ooo ooo I would love to see shang tsungs palace remade and the pit ... again lol.
I think they should most definently remake Mk3 though oh well back to subject.
there wouldn't be very many characters to choose though and you know what that means .............. that means every single character can have all of their old moves that they didn't bring back.
but if they do remake the game I hope they give Scorpion & Sub-zero their old costume from-mk1,they better cuz that would look cool ... or they could at least give them the costumes from mk:sm as well as everyone else.

all of the characters from mk1 can come to the remake ....... ermac can come 2 ....and reptile lol. but they better not add new characters to the remake if they do remake it

No, MKSM takes place between MK1-2 if it was actually a remake then it would have all the characters from it.

I think a great idea would be for a remake would to be have chrachters LIKE the original...but give them a different personality. Like make the liu kang charcter (hero) kind of arrogant, thinking hes the greatest fighter in the world. a incredibly easy way to bring sub back would say cuz hes the grandmaster of the lin kuei, he enters every tournamnt to show WHY hes the grandmaster.

You're missing my point people!
The reason I want a MK1 remake is not because I want extra stuff put into it and hundreds of unlockables and other worthless extras.
I want the remake because storywise MK1 was simple and to the point. Every character had a good backstory and cause to fight for. The game was revolutionary back then...
Now every new MK is more of the same, just some new stuff are added each time.
A remake of MK1 should have all the original MK1 characters + secret characters. The focus should be on the gameplay and graphics... This could be the best fighting game ever, given the right approach and attention.
Virtua Fighter doesn't have many characters, but it is an excellent game. Why can't Mortal Kombat be so? Instead of having characters sharing moves we could have each character carefuly built from scratch, having in mind only their original story and appearance.
This could be the best game ever...

Good idea, but what about the character numbers? MK1 only had like 7 fighters.

That is very true, but imagine the amount of detail could be put into each character? There could be hundreds of different punches, kicks, throws, grapples, blocks, parries, and even taunts from each character. I would love the graphics to be just like Fight Night Round 3, where you can see the sweat drop off the character's faces. Imagine the fatalities done with those graphics? I would shiver.

If you ask me, they should, but according to the story, it isnt. there could be a story like this: The first mortal kombat that included Liu Kang had started Armegaddon. it had started caous in earthrealm and outworld. For some reason, during armegeddon, the 9 kombetitents from the beginning couldnt die. So know, the elder gods have sent them back to shang tsungs island for the final round. it shall end as it began......

MK1 is fine the way it is. If you grew up with it, it's a classic that shouldn't be tampered with. if you didn't grow up with it, i know the graphics didn't age very well but think about if they were goin to remake ocarina of time; it would be cool, but unecessary.

It would be cool if they actually just started again... Not an exact remake of MK1 but have some of the old characters like scorpion and subzero, but with slightly different personalities. Lui Kang - Get rid of him hes the champion blah blah blah boring. Shang Tsung - Get rid of him he can't fit in the story it has to be FRESH.

Basically, I think this is the only way to go because they have all these champions and ultimate bosses and stuff now they CANNOT make a good story and I can see why! They need to bring it back to the basics, maybe even having a completely different set of original characters

Wrong. Alot the times, remakes end up being pure awesomeness. Residen Evil and Conker's Bad Fur Day for example. Tomb Raider 1 is being remade at the moment and it is looks pure sexy! If MK1 was to be remade however I would want it to stay true to the original. Goro, Reptile and Shang Tsung can be unlockable however but them and the original 7 should be the only ones playable. No connections to any other MK game. Purely MK1, the tournament, the events leading up to it and the ending. That's all. All the classic arenas, the classic fatalities, special moves, right down to the winning poses. (Sonya's Y, Kano's growl, Cage's "Yeah!") A remake of MK1 would be awesome. A remake of MK2, MK3 or MK4 however doesn't interest me as much, though I still believe they should re-release MKG only completely fixed.

I'd much rather have a remake of UMK3, with a classic fighting game, and MKSM-esque adventure game. In the adventure part, you would be able to play as every single character, and learn their story. Sort of like an individual Konquest.

For example...

Sub-Zero's Konquest game starts with you trying to escape from the Lin Kuei temple with Smoke. You fight off a bunch of cyber ninjas, and eventually get out. At this point, he is still in his classic ninja outfit. He meets up with Raiden, where he describes the situation to him (And it acts as a training mission, teaching you the basics of the game). Then it just follows his storyline until Kahn is defeated.

As for the arenas, every single MK3/UMK3 arena would be in the game. I'd like to see even more special moves (Plus all of the classics), and alternate costumes. That would be awesome.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

you people are having ideas for new mortal kombat games!!

it would just ruin what was the beauty of MK1!!

what they need is take the MK1 game and make it playable for current game systems. Yea, bump up the graphics a bunch, and haev the ability to choose to fight in the original 2D or the current 3D, or the multi directional like in MKSM

No,MK1 is fine as it is,a remake of it could be a bad idea.

IMO,a Special Forces remake or an MK3 remake would be much better!

I see what he is saying. A mk1 remake would allow them to spend alot more time on detail. The stages and characters would be life like. I say keep everything true too. All the same stages and same characters. Only thing Id say that should be different is its in 3D and the gameplay is different. And you start off with the normal 7 and you can unlock Reptile and Ermac as well as Goro and Shang Tsung. And maybe for the super unlockable to be one of those monk guys in the background. I say they should have there original fatalitys plus brand new fresh ones.

This would make fighting game of the year and would probably be one of the best fighting games in history. No other fighter would have so much detail.

I would say yes and no to the idea, no because i dont want to see what they did with shaolin monks completely ruin the storyline and just do a rush job and leave it half assed cause they will know that people will buy it. I dont want another mk title that does nothing but milk the franchise to death.

Now for the reason why I do want it happen (not bothered if they dont), it has the potential to revive the series ( i mean this by having a decent mk game in a long time after umk3). It has potiential to be the best 3d mk game ever and give the series a true successful transition to 3d and heres why: (In 2 parts cause it going to take ages typing it)

MY IDEAS ON HOW THE GAME SHOULD BE MADE PART 1

NAME: Mortal Kombat 3D

CHARACTERS AND COSTUMES:
Max 10 playable characters:

Original 7 playable from the start - Scoropion, Subzero, Liu Kang, Raiden, Kano, Sonya and Johnny Cage.

3 Hidden/Unlockable characters- Reptile, Ermac (no story) and A MASKED GUARD (Tsung's bodyguard no story as such)

2 Boss characters- Goro and Shang Tsung. (not playable)

(Note reptile will have his own moves, shang should be able to morph due to beng on next gen consoles, masked guard has the staff or can have sword see gameplay in part 2 yet to come)

Number of costumes per character = 3

Primary- New redesigned costumes that resemble the classics ( new but doesnt distant itself from the original concept)

Secondary- Shaolin monks costumes from the MKSM renders (GOOD artwork and again it was a kind of remake of the originals that was new but didn't stray away from the original concept)

Tertiary- The retro design old skool mk1 costumes (note due to the graphical performance of the next gen consoles this could look good- see graphics section in part 2)

MODES:

Arcade mode (includes test your might, 3 endurance matches, mirror match and hidden character battles)

Versus mode (includes test your might)

Tag Battle mode (including some double team moves)

Endurance mode (like Mk4s but also with handicap to on 1 etc matches, health recovers after every match apart from ladder endurance)

MK Online (I would definately see this feature on here to go back to the arcade days but must be done properly)

Kharacter Kustomisation: I was going to have KAK from mka but save that for mk8 and put this idea here, you can change colours of character projectiles eg Reptile acid spit from green to red, or you could cahnge the appearance of a projectile e.g liu kang fireball shape could be changed from a ball of file to a dragon shape hell even a yin yang in the form of a fireball just for laughs.
Also you can put parts of other costumes from mk game on them e.g Scorion could have his swords from his MKDA costume on his retro mk1 costume or the flamming skull or cahne his appearnace to make him look like inferno scorpion from mksm. The possibilites are endless. Like Tekken each character has his or her own set of customizable options and another good thing is you can take it online to show it off, you could have your own unique scorpion.

Original arcade perfect port of MK1: A decent arcade version not some MAT crap.

The vault/krypt as in mka

Kreate a profile

Practice mode- Like MK4 (2 player) and like Tekken

Story Mode/Tournament mode- Ive decided to call this tournament mode as it sounds better and the story is about a tournament. It plays similar to tekken 5 where there are cutscenes and endings are FMVs.

However this where MIDWAY need to take care and make sure they they dont mess the storyline up. This is done so that we can see the story from a different perspective through the characters themselves in terms of cutscenes and the what if scanarios. However as we are not reading text of writing from an ending or bio therefore the characters will need some dialogue with DECENT VOICE ACTING MIDWAY! that goes through all the events that happen in the mk1 storyline.

Also not all cahracters will fight Goro and Shang Tsung i.e Reptile (Only hidden character playable in story mode) or Sonya or Scorpion so therefore their final bosses will be their rival i.e Scorpions will be Subzero, Sonyas will be Kano. However certain characters dont really have rivals like Johnny Cage and Raiden, in this case it will be appropriate for Raiden to have his final battle with Shang Tsung as he is the threat to Earth, Johnny Cage could fight Reptile as neither one of these had a proper rival in the storyline (forget cage and goro that was in the MOVIE). Reptile could fight Cage for the same reason above).

Others like Subzero and liu kang will fight both Goro and Shang Tsung. Liu kang because he defeats them both and wins in the mk1 storyline and Subzero because in his bio he is sent to kill Shang Tsung so coording to his storyline and what if ending he completes his mission. Scorpion can be his mid boss fight, the subboss as Shang makes him fight him in order to fight Tsung himself the boss.

The rest of the fights can be fighting random enemies such as masked guards (THINK Soul calibur 3 where in that story mode will be random opponents such as theves etc just to fill the fights) different guards will have different weapons such as one will have a sword and the next will have a staff weapon. You can even get mini mission based games as well as endurace matches against 3 guards etc. It will make up for the lack of characters you face (ill elaborate this more in the future). Also each of the characters story mode will vary in terms of how many opponent you will fight.

Some cutscenes such as Scorpion vs Subzero in subs story mode Raiden will appear before the fight and warns Sub that if he loses he will become the one thing he hates which gives reference to him becoming Noob an already cannon part of the story also referneces the ending from mkm:sz about the taint Sub has in his soul. These are all cannon parts of the storyline and this is as far as it will go in terms of addind a little more depth to the story without harming the original story so that it DOES NOT become another mksm. Raiden simply warns Sub and tells him not to lose this i think will be a good way to add depth without hurting the story get a bit of dialogue between characters which we could not see in the original mk1. The endings will be seen in this mode and not arcade.

The purpose of this mode is story, if you want a long fighting experience then arcade mode will give you this.

I will continue this in the near future if you got this far reading this than i salute you for having the patience i will continue this in part2. BE PREPARD for another long ass post lol!

Although I believe it is better that they progress forwards with the series, instead of backwards, I wouldn't mind and MK1 remake at all. Perhaps it could do what the Resident Evil Remake, create a new engine, and use it to tweak for the new future games, like RE did for Resident Evil 0 and 4.

However, saying this, they better not screw up one of the best fighting classics of all time. Boon should keep the basic plot the same, the tournament, defending Earthrealm, that whole thing. However, the characters should be very in-depth this time around, and make us really feel and connect with them. Do something the original did not establish was a strong outline for the characters.

Besides that, I don't see too much else that needs to be changed. Stuff should definitely be added as well, but not an exceeding amount of useless crap (MKDA) or limited selection (MKA). I'll go deeper with some stuff later prehaps.
