Let's all get excited! Here it is...

Seriously, June 30, 2015? Why all the early announcements from WB?
Batman vs Superman comes out in 2016, Arkham Knight is delayed until sometime in 2015. Now MKX June 2015. This is the first game from Boon and co. in a long time that isn't released in April.

My question is this, why do we need to know about this game right now? I'm all excited about it, but I gotta wait over a year? I felt similiar with Batman vs Superman. Not that I'm huge into that movie announcement, but people have to wait 2 years before it comes out. I'm still excited for MKX, but it's gonna be a while before we see this game, sadly.

What do you think of the early release dates from WB?

Assuming this is legit, it's still no surprise. We usually get plenty of time before an MK release during the announcement. It helps NRS gather attention to their game, and give them plenty of time to trickle out bits of details and info. This enforces a better chance as a successful opening launch and a better chance they meet their revenue goals.

The movies, on the other hand, are different. Superman V Batman was actually delayed a few months after it was announced. Still, the same strategy applies. WB is a major company, so they will push their projects with major campaigns.

June 30th? I wonder if that date will remain, I was hoping for at least April. I don't really have an issue with announcing release dates early, but this wait is going to suck.

Release dates change all the time. I wouldn't bank on this 100% yet.

I don't remember hearing about MK over a year before it comes out, ever! Usually it'd be announced at E3, then come out in April. MKX is nearly 13 months away! Maybe you heard about them before me ;)

I don't remember when they were all announced, but before MK9, MK games used to be traditionally released in the fall, like September/October/November.

April was a new thing.

That's literally smack right in the middle of the year 2015. To the day.

Likely just a placeholder indicating the year.

The last game had about a year gap in between announcement and release. Midway was never on the same scale as Warner Brothers, so naturally their ad campaign wouldn't have lasted as long.

Damn, I was really hoping for an April 2015 release.

Has Boon/WB/NRS confirmed the June 2015 release date? Seems odd that it wasn't in their press release....released YESTERDAY.

Placeholder.

Won't bet on anything until Boon or WB say otherwise.
I'm still thinking around April.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt. This is pure speculation, but I'm sure they've been working on MKX since they started promoting Injustice GAU, which was revealed back in 2012. If that's the case and if we take into account how they market, promote, release, this game should be out in April 2015.

MK 2011 was revealed at E3 2010, released April 2011 and they finished releasing DLC at the end of the Summer.
Injustice GAU was announced at E3 2012, released April 2013 and they finished releasing the DLC by the end of the Summer (maybe early fall, IGAU had a lot of DLC so I can't quite remember).
Going based off that pattern and seeing that MKX will be fully revealed at E3 this year, I'm willing to bet we'll see an April 2015 release.

Again, just speculating. I could totally be wrong.
Ah no man I dont like this at all! C'mon MK 2011 got announced around the same time as MKX why not around April/May? like last time, when they showed characters like every week, that was sooooooooooooooooooo AWESOME!!!1111111

This can't be the real date. It would have been mentioned in the press release, which was just released yesterday.

Either this is fake, or it's simply a placeholder.

It kinda sucked the way they unveiled them for MK9. You'd have characters popping up in random foreign magazines and stuff for their debut. Didn't it take the demo's hack to get first confirmation Smoke was in?

Hopefully they follow Injustice's character release pattern.

I'll bet money it's an April 2015 release. Seems to be their schedule now.

If we assume they have around 30 characters, they can reveal six characters at E3, and then 2 characters every month until release. With DLC MK 2011 had 30 playable characters excluding guest characters, so I'm thinking MKX will have a similar number. I'd lean towards gaining a few numbers over losing a few though, so they can keep some of them super secret.

MK 2011 also had 29 stages, including variations and excluding the Kratos level. 23 not including variations, and 22 not including the practice stage. So they could easily alternate between showing one and two stages each month, plus a few at E3 if the number of stages in MK 2011 is anything to go by.

This is, of course, assuming that my math is correct which it probably isn't, and that we have 12 months until the actual game comes out. I'd like to think that IGN's release date is just an estimate and it's actually coming out earlier, but I have a feeling I'll be disappointed if I actually believe it, so I'd rather just assume it comes out June (or later), and be happy if I'm wrong.

This is the same pattern I was expecting to see for MKX

I assure you it's not a fake. I received my IGN insider email today, here's what it looks like.

Anybody who's signed up for the IGN newsletter should've got the same email. I doubt they would just make up a release date. Maybe NRS is overestimating the date?

I'm sure if it was set for June Boon would have tweeted something. June is probably just a temporary date they put there. As I said earlier, release dates can always change.

Isn't June 30 the last day of the second financial quarter (Q2)? I was thinking it might be a placeholder if its coming out that quarter, which runs April-June.
