Realistic Characters & Likenesses post Carl Weathers

The main reason I was ever drawn to Mortal Kombat was the fact that the characters were actually real people. The digitized actors were always the coolest part of the game for me. Since the 3D era, character models have not been modeled as real life people (actors).

When MKX was announced, I was so hyped that the team may actually base the characters off of real people due to the graphical power on current generatik systems. Although I think the game and characters look amazing, I was disappointed that the characters were modeled.

The game changer here is the newly announced Carl Weathers skin as Jax. While we haven't seen it yet, I'd assume it's safe to say that the skin will obviously be created in his likeness. Which brings me to my point.

How awesome would it be to have other skins modeled after real actors? For example, a Kerri Hoskins skin for Sonya. Kerri has said on several occasions that she would love to play Sonya again. I would pay for that skin in a second. And the list of actors as characters spans from the Legacy series, to past films, the new online series, and possibly the newest feature film.

Maybe I'm stretching out too far, but the fact that Carl Weathers can be modeled and playable in a Mortal Kombat game means anyone could. Imagine high profile celebrities as characters. Ha! I'd love to perform a fatality as Arnold Schwarzanegger Kotal Koahn against Kim Kardashian Kitana. How fucking amusing!

But I'll totally settle for a Kerri Sonya. Yes, please.

I'm fine with actors' likeness used for guest characters or some special MK movie kostume pack(like the Man of Steel pack in Injustice) but using real likeness of unrelated characters?

I would fucking love this tbh a Kerri Sonya skin, a Ho Sung Pak based Liu Kang sking, a Divizio Kano skin, an Anthony Marquez Kung Lao skin, a John Parrish Jax skin lol I know that's a little different than what you were suggesting but just thinking about it makes me a little giddy lol

I'd be totally fine with seeing downloadable skins for those :D As far as Arnold Schwarzenegger Kotal Kahn or Kim Kardashian Kitana? No... No offense, but that honestly sounds ridiculous because they've never had any involvement in the MK universe. I wouldn't even like it if they were free skins.

It just dawned on me. What if they actually used these likeness for the klassic skins or at least recreate the haircuts?! It would blow my mind.

See I would love this, if they released classic skins for those characters, based their appearance on their original actors and in their classic costumes, I would be ecstatic lol

I was mainly referring that it would be awesome to have the classic actors have skins for MKX.

A big "hell yes!" to using the likenesses of former MK video game and movie actors for skins. I didn't even think about this before, but it's a no brainer. There might be a few legal hurdles to clear (especially for the movie actors), but what a way to honor the past actors that helped start the MK franchise.

I'm wondering from a technical standpoint how they'd accomplish this. To be as accurate as possible, they'd most likely have to fly the actors in to the studio and scan their faces. Might be expensive to do this, but if WB is willing to front the cash, I'm willing to throw down mine for those awesome skins!

You got my vote man! Bring the MK roots back to life! I love digitized characters and they were also the magic of MK for me in the days. Oh yeah, and i wonder how good Carl Weathers will look in MKX. Can NRS really make a (photo) realistic human face for him?

No, it's MK1 to 3 all over again. SFTM was just a rip off of the MK style.

Style that probably existed before MK.

I wouldn't mind it if done carefully and respectfully. And if it made sense.

Like, just like Liu Kang was an obvious Bruce Lee homage, so was Tekken's Law family, yellow jumpsuit included and all. That's kind of nice. So a JCVD skin for Johnny Cage would make sense (if legal hurdles were cleared) because Cage was initially meant to be his digital likeness, but I already do feel that Jax's Carl Weathers skin is sort of pushing the boundaries. It's like "hey, we have a buff black dude in the game and Predator, we might as well do this shit". It'd make as much sense to have a Steven Seagal skin for Nightwolf because Seagal has long black hair and loves styling himself as some sort of eco-warrior.
