Okay.. forgive me if this type of post has been done.. I have gone through a lot of pages and didn't come across it so I figured I would make a post...

With the majority of the cast of the last Mortal Kombat game deceased, there is a potential for the next game to introduce a lot of new characters.. Whether or not that is the route Nether Realm Studios is going to choose to go, I thought it would be cool to brainstorm the types of new characters we might see...

Assuming part of the story involves the few good survivors (Raiden, Sonya, Johnny Cage) seeking out new earthrealm warriors to join the fight, What kinds of fighters would you like to see?

Personally I'd like a little diversity. Id like...

1) An Arabian type fighter
2) A new Centaur... since Motaro was basically wasted in the last game
3) A new Shokan?
4) A Samurai style character
5) A Sumo type character
6) A new Godlike character (Water god, earth god)
7) An Egyptian style fighter

What would every one else like? Also since the trend is to have a GUEST from another game, who would every one like to see? I might get flamed but I thought Kratos was a decent addition to the game!

I would really like to see MK introduce a grappler style character. SF has had them for years and I thought Injustice did a great job with Bane.

Maybe if Moloch returns, they could make him a grappler style character.

Similar to the "Gadgets" and "Power" characters in Injustice, it would be cool to see some variations between characters.

I think a new Shokan would be a good choice for Grappler

I agree.
I'm not all that concerned about getting 'X' ethnic group, clan member, or martial arts practitioner, but I would like to see variety in how the characters fight, like Injustice (although I am interested in seeing another Outworld humanoid (male, preferably) and an Earthrealm female.) Those archetypes suggested could therefore easily apply.

Ergo...
- Weapon-based characters (a la Deathstroke or Green Arrow): Kenshi, Skarlet, Havik, etc.
- Hand-to-hand characters (a la Superman): Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Reiko (likely; no hammer, please)
- Gadget characters (a la Batgirl): Sonya (sorta,) Sektor, Cyrax
- Magic-based characters (a la Raven or Green Lantern): Shinnok, Ermac, Quan Chi, Tanya (maybe)
- Grapplers (a la Grundy or Bane): Jax, Jarek (if he's ever coming back,) Tremor (not that I care)

I'm not asking for complete moveset overhauls for characters present in MK9, but just some aesthetic polish and differentiation. There can clearly be overlap of the categories for certain characters. If other fighting styles are then introduced, that's fine by me.
...
In regards to some of the character types mentioned, the only one I have real doubts about is Sumo. (Perhaps I'm stuck on the blandness of every other Sumo-based character I've seen in a fighting game (Ganryu, Taka-Arashi, E. Honda, etc.) Also, maybe I'm too harsh on it because it looked like total crap for both Bo' Rai Cho and Hsu Hao in the 3D era (as did many other fighting styles.))
...
As for guest characters, I don't really approve, but I could see one of the Killer Instinct characters (Jago/Orchid/Fulgore) being completely believable for the XBONE version.

MKfan99 Wrote: I agree, Killer Instinct Characters seem likely as a guest on the XBOXONE version. What about some one from Assassins Creed on PS4?

Honestly, I don't know much about the Assassin's Creed series or its characters, but I suppose it could work. So long as the guests don't get the stupid preferential treatment that Kratos received (i.e. mouth doesn't open during certain fatalities/ doesn't run away from giant Ermac) then it's okay by me.

My idea for new character types

Boxer: Doesn't have to be an actual boxer, though. It could instead be a new type of non-human creature that uses only, or mostly it's fists to fight.

Blob: Self-explanatory. And I wouldn't want it to take a humanoid form.

Parasite: a body-snatching creature that uses both it's own attacks and it's host's. When you select it as a fighter, it's inhabiting a body with no particular powers of it's own, and the parasite can only use it's own abilities.

As an AI-controlled opponent however, it could inhabit any opponents you fight. You'd never know you're fighting it until it uses one of it's own special moves.

One of it's fatalities would see it switch bodies. It could only inhabit the same fighter for a few fights before said fighter decomposes and it has to switch hosts. How long it could inhabit the same body would depend on the difficulty setting. If it doesn't switch bodies in time, it will have to fight in it's own form, which is much weaker.

During online play, the parasite only inhabits a generic customizable body, and thus can only use it's own abilities. We wouldn't want scrubs making their already overpowered characters even more so with extra moves now, would we?
