Competing Assassination/Bounty Hunting Agencies: Springboarding the rival Bounty Hunters Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

many mutations/alien/experimentations resulting in Shokan, Centaur, Saurian, and new races of beings.

Shao Kahn is still emperor and is driving his forces across the galaxy, wanting to conquer it in its entirety.

Shang Tsung as a shape-changing alien doctor who experiments on conquered races to create new warriors for Kahn's Army.

Special Forces remain similar but defend against extra-terrestrial threats like Kahn.
