There are things I like about both. I loved free Edenia ruled by Sindel and Kitana, so I do miss that. But I was very underwhelmed by the storyline from Deadly Alliance onward, so I'm glad to see most of that hopefully go by the wayside. In particular I felt like Chaosrealm and Orderrealm were unnecessary distractions, and I hope we don't get caught up in that stuff again.

The only qualm I have with this new timeline is that they seem to be trying too hard to go 'dark and edgy' with it. And I'm fully aware that MK was never a franchise that shat rainbows and butterflies, but it never took itself too seriously, either.

If I had to pick one I prefer, I'd say new. It's less cluttered.

I like them both, but the old timeline got very unfocused at MKA; it was the perfect time to reboot when they did. While I do hope elements from MKDA-MKA are covered in future sequels, I want them to have their own original stories like MKX did (while it also covered the events of MK4).

Too hard for me to choose, I have a HUGE soft spot for the original timeline, so many fond memories of playing those games and then later in the series I LOVED exploring the world in the conquest mode with Shujinko lol I cant even explain ill just say its special to me, as corny as that sounds. Armageddon was probably the only part of the OT that I wasn't to big on.

I like the new timeline a lot too, and cant wait to see where they take it from here :)

I loved the original timeline up until just after deadly alliance. After Lui Kang was killed off it seemed like nobody was good enough to replace him as the champ/main character. Shujinko was downright boring and the less said about Taven the better. It felt like they were being forced upon us and it didn't pay off. Love the new timeline also. Maybe a few too many offspring but not a bad effort.

Both. But in the old timeline I wish it was some minor unplayable characters like (Sub-Zero's sister, or Liu Kang's younger brother was able to have more of a back story to the series.

Taven was better than Shujinko. But yeah, still very lackluster. But Armageddon really did break the camel's back. I get what they were trying to do gameplay wise, but in terms of story, having it be the end all of Mortal Kombat, and the way the characters carried themselves, it felt like they had no humanity at all. Even when Sonya tracks down Taven, she just talks ultimatums at him, without showing any signs of personality. It just seems like a very sad world. Of course, the problem was probably the writing. Either way, it just felt like a let down, to have it all come down to stupid circumstances like that, and to proclaim, "whoever wins, it all ends here" pretty much.
By restarting the timeline, they actually gave the game new life and now the characters seem a lot more human, more likable, so in terms of sheer narrative, it's difficult NOT to like the new timeline better.

I really can't say until we're further in the new timeline. Right now we're comparing two games to seven.

Personally there are elements I like with the new timeline and elements I liked of the old timeline.

IMO Old timeline strong story elements:
-MKDA seeing an alliance of shang tsung and quan chi since together they were able to take out major forces (Shao Kahn / Lui Kang).
-New tournament was introduced that was a rouse for capturing souls. Gave credible introduction to Li Mei as a character trying to free her people in outworld.
-Kitana / Goro were in an alliance to take down Shao Kahn, added dimensions of different empires coming together to defeat a larger one. so not just black/white or good/evil. Shows Goro will politically align with others for the benefit of his race and not just inherently evil.
-Inclusion that Scorpion was tormenting Quan CHi and his role in MKDA was to hunt him down was pretty cool. Like a bounty hunter.
-MKD Liked that Mileena escaped Edenian dungeon and formed an alliance with Baraka. Seeing her rise to power through Deception was pretty cool as well as deciding that it was in her best interest to be rid of Baraka to keep her power.
-Liked that Jade and Sindel were representing Edenia and were in a sidequest for saving Kitana as well looking for knowledge to stop the Dragon King


New timeline:
-Like introduction of new characters.
-Wish there were more chapters to show Mileena's rise to power and how else she rebelled against Kotal to prove a formidable force to be dealt with.
-Tanya could potentially be a good character in this timeline since her main objective seems to be freeing Edenia.
-Like civil war aspect in Outworld, makes sense there would be a power struggle after Shao Kahns death
-Like the emphasis put in honorable kombat (as said by Li Mei & Kotal Kahn/Kung Jin) which explains how the tournaments came about. Basically shows an element of Outworld culture and tradition being important to them.

I do love the new direction MK is going in the new timeline but deep down, I miss the old timeline for sure. Deadly Alliance and Deception were my favorite story arcs.

It's not an old time line, the alternate reality still exists.

Old timeline.

-Good Scorpion story in the original trilogy.

-Great showing for Shang Tsung with him being relevant and actually important to the story, he was the boss twice, that's how badass he is.

-Interesting stories like Liu Kang dying before turning into a zombie, Raiden getting corrupted, Quan Chi betraying Shinnok and the Dragon King's return.

-Characters who are more daring and not safe. Sure the likes of Hsu Hao and Mavado didn't work but Kenshi,Bo,Li Mei and Shujinko were really interesting and something cool to see, Shujinko might not be loved by many but he is with no doubt interesting in terms of story and his story is 10 times better than all the new timeline stories combined!

-Death meant something which is why people were freaking out with the MK9 deaths. Look at all the MKX threads with people crying out for the deaths that happened in the story... Exactly! Everybody is laughing their ass off at their favourite characters dying and saying "We'll see them back to life sooner rather than later" Because it's fucking true.

- Sub-zero being interesting until of course we get to MKDA and he becomes a bitch boy who gets betrayed by Frost because he is soft.

New Timeline.

-Amazing and fun gameplay, lel.

Yeah, I'll go with the Original timeline.

New timeline is just stupid, I'll just talk a little about the story of MKX.

1. Why did Fujin disappear? Where was he when Shinnok was fucking Earth over, isn't he a god protector of Earthrealm?

2. Why is Kotal Kahn a smart leader in the comics and a dumbass who gets betrayed left and right in the story mode?

3. Why does Sub-zero have the stupidest chapter and which adds ZERO to the story? Couldn't he have a flash back to how he took the Lin Kuei instead of getting punched by stupid kids before putting them in their place?

4. Where the FUCK do Rain and Tanya go?! They are not killed and now that I'm thinking about it, WHY weren't they killed? Cassie didn't have a problem fucking up Mavado and it's not like D'vorah just takes orders from Cassie. So why weren't they killed?

5. Why does Ermac turn against Mileena? I'm being serious, why does he turn against Mileena? When we first see him he is with Mileena but then all of a sudden he is like "Our creator is dead, we serve who we want", YOU FUCKING DUMBASS HE HAS BEEN DEAD FOR YEARS. GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE YOU FUCKING IDIOT. Seriously, I hate what they did with Ermac in this game, first the turned him into a mummy and then they make him a dumb mummy.

6. Kotal Kahn losing to Kung Jin........................ Yeah....................... Can't wait for people to tell me that Kotal Kahn let Kung Jin win just like Raiden let Sonya Blade win in MK9. o.O

7. Sub-zero reaching the Dead Woods in a matter of seconds... Sure we don't know how far is the Lin Kuei temple from the Dead Woods but I bet it's not 2 mins away from the Lin Kuei temple.

8. Shinnok, the main boss, the big bad, gets about as much screen time as Kabal... I'm being serious, the guy shows up, gets imprisoned, gets freed 25 years later and then gets imprisoned again.... Just degrading, the only thing the I really like is Shinnok Intros which make me wonder, WHY THE FUCK WASN'T HE TALKING MORE IN THE STORY?! He is fucking amazing, fuck you NRS forcing Cassie down our throats.

9. Cassie defeats Shinnok?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? FUCKING STUPID, JUST STUPID!

MK9 was a stupid and bad story but this MKX's story takes to a whole new level of bad.

Original timeline > Pizza > Chips > The new Avengers movie. The new timeline doesn't even compare in terms of story to anything, it's just a shitty story with shitty chapter system because they don't know how to use it.

Old. The new timeline has potential to be great but I'll always be soured on it simply due to the fact that the reboot exists at all. Not to mention all of the arbitrary retcons.

I like stuff from both. I say we have a Crisis and merge the best aspects of both timelines, comics, and the movie.

Then we set the tone to be more like the old timeline.

I really enjoyed original timeline SZ as that character had a long list of achievements when compared with the dull new timeline SZ who is inconsequential in every respect. Why is he based so close to the pointless woods instead of fortifying the walls of the incredibly important Sky Temple? Might it be because monks and Lin Kuei do not like living/training together. Why was SZ personally repelling Kotal's forces instead of aiding Cassie at the Sky Temple? Surely his clan can slow Kotal's advance because the Jinsei is literally the most vital thing in Earthrealm. So what if Kotal makes it to the temple later or establishes a base, does he not realize Shinnok is a ticking time bomb within the temple walls! Look up and see the corrupted the sky! Shinnok is literally blocking out the sun with ominous red clouds and you cryomancer are concerned with Outworlders who are the lessor of two evils; who most likely will have to travel for some time to encounter a populated region, as Kotal teleported into the Dead Woods, a place that should be devoid of life, hence the name of the stage.

Cassie ordering D'Vorah around makes no logical sense whatsoever; not that I am complaining as she is the sole reason that Rain lives.

Mummy Ermac is ok. Sure NRS using him in the story is at least a step up from Sektor and Baraka but he could have been designed and handled better.

ON second thought, i would have to say old for sure.

Were this still just after MK 2011 that would be an easy choice (old) but with MKX, things are kind of getting interesting again so I'll have to wait until the next one to see how hard they fumble every possible set up from MKX to make my decision.

Oh and I bet Vogel will drop the ball, go to pick it up and kick it, and keep kicking it every time he gets near it.

We have characters who show hints of more depth now (Mileena) endings involving Sub-Zero riding dragons!
Shang Tsung coming back by being as cunning, conniving and powerful as we had remembered him being in the previous time line, before Vogel's favoritism for Quan Chi allowed Shang to be undercut every step of the way in the last game!

Then set ups like

Having Shujinko at large, signifying Onaga is around or possibly already resurrected. Taven being awakened. Takeda having a personal vendetta against the Red Dragon. Fucking D'Vorah as an awesome new menacing villain.
Reptile finding his people amidst all the chaos. Rain finally being built up to be taken very seriously as a threatening character...just sooo much. Don't fuck it up!

Johnny cage is raiden's champion in new(possitive), but old timeline has Shujinko being important(negative)

and

Liu is dead in both timelines....(wtf NRS/midway)

Agreed, I am not a fan, at all! With the treatment Liu is receiving from Vogel and NRS. Him not being freed in the story mode i can forgive...for now. But Vogel got him so backwards in his ending that it's a little concerning.
