This could actually be really interesting. I like that, since it's a prequel, it would allow for a lot of fighters that we've only heard of, like The Great Kung Lao. It would be a really cool way to implement new fighters without giving them pointless stories that don't fit in with everything else going on. Drahmin could still be human at the time, we could see some former Lin Kuei, the Shirai-Ryu, hell, new Saurians, and some Red Dragon clan members. If this was made into a game, and the story wasn't complete bullshit, I'd probably buy it.

To be quite honest, I'm really not a fan of Bo Rai Cho. And okay, so he's a part of the franchise, I made my peace with that. But it didn't say anywhere that Bo Rai Cho had anything to do with the Great Kung Lao, so as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't like to see Bo Rai Cho associated with that era of the Mortal Kombat tournament.

I've been thinking lately that they should make some kind of prequel. Weather it a fighting game, action game (like Batman Arkham Asylum), or other media. I feel after Deception came out there is enough of a back story and characters to make something set before MK1. There is just so may evens that could be shown, and explained :

-How Shao Khan came to power, and killed the Dragon King
-the destruction of Reptiles race
-Exactly how Shang tsung came into allegiance with Shao Khan
-the 10 tournaments between Outworld and Edenia
-Outworld's invasion and eventual take over of Edenia
-How King Jerrod was killed, and the whole spell with Sindel, and earthrealm
-How Kintaro, and Goro came to prominence

This could prove to be excellent, and it could follow the old story line's happenings more strictly, but I don't want Shao Kahn to be in command in the next Mortal Kombat again. Mortal Kombat Z could come right after Mortal Kombat X (ten).

Yes, yes, and YES!!!!

A Mortal Kombat prequel would be cool as hell.

MK has such a RICH backstory. Im talking about HUNDREDS of years of backstory.

It literally could have like a Star Wars thing going for it.

I'm all for it. Sign me up!!!

I like the idea of a Mortal Kombat prequel and the characters you have. But I don't think Bo Rai Cho should be in it. As an Outworldian, his victory would have count for Outworld. He made his debut in MKDA but by then Earthrealm would have gain control of the tournament, if there was even a tournament left. The whole deal about the tournament, where Outworld must defeat Earthrealm in order to invade, pretty much ended with MK3. From MK4 forward, the war seems to involve other realms, first Netherrealm, then the rest. So it was ok for Bo Rai Cho to be involve in MKDA. But as this prequel precede even MK1, when there was a normal tournament, as his involvement even victory will not help Earthrealm cause.

That being said, maybe there is a way to keep him in the game. Raiden is suppose to be a deity forbidden to take part in Mortal Kombat, but we saw his character as playable in MK1. But only to read his joke ending, where he destroy all the earth and everybody have a nice day. Maybe Bo Rai Cho can be in the game, but have a joke ending too. But safe bet, maybe have him just train Great Kung Lao as a secondary character.

I could see Bo Rai Cho in the tournament as a representative of Outworld. By the end of the game, he changes sides. The Great Kung lao defeats him, but shows him mercy(being of the PACIFIST Shaolin order and all). Later on, Kung is defeated by Goro and yields, but Shang demands he be finished. This display of what seems to be dishonourable behavior causes Bo to turn his back on Outworld.

I actually really love this idea. Part of the beauty of the Mortal Kombat world as opposed to other fighting games is how rich and expansive the world has become. Many of the characters has stories spannig back long enough that appearing in a prequel would be logical and doable, while also lending enough familiarity to bring in casual fans. It'd also give NRS a chance to explore some of the characters and mythos that formed the foundation o the (alternate) universe we all know and love.

Personally getting the chance to explore a morally-confused Bo Rai Cho, or Great Kung Lao, or a young Goro would be a nice change of pace. It'd also allow the NRS team to ply around ith some concepts or characters they don't want to have permeate into the more present MK timeline.

I would actually very much like this as say an 'expansion'or as a DLC, as a stand-alone game it would be too reminiscent of MK 1. Great idea though !

I'm disappointed there's no taja, siro & vorpax. Wish they'd have a scorpion and sub-zero.

No saurian, no other races in this game.

I like the idea, though I'm curious how one would format such an endeavor's actual plot or story mode if it had one, with only a portion of the characters being competitors in the GKL/Goro tournament and the majority being ancillary. For instance, Shao Kahn is in there, but is he the boss? Or is the boss Goro or Shang or even Great Kung Lao?

Also, the motivation you've given Takeda is rather...the exact opposite of what Mythologies said it was. He was interested in profit and sold his "services and knowledge" to Japanese feudal lords, training their soldiers and spreading ninjutsu around.

Since GKL's not very big

Actually...I've always kinda wanted to see him portrayed as tall as he is in this ending:

I think defining him as physically a beast would make him sufficiently different and more original from his small, agile descendant of the same name.
