Twenty? I'm guessing we see three returning characters for the next game. Scorpion, Sub Zero and ______.

As for who that last character is, I think they'll have to be someone that has little or nothing to do with the main plot of the last few games. In other words, none of the Earthrealm warriors, and no one that has anything to do with the Dragon King. A character that can be built upon, but was part of the subplots in previous game(s). I'm talking about:

You get the idea. Even then, I think that whoever returns will be somewhat of a surprise. Someone you wouldn't think the MK team would bother to bring back. That's why my theory is that Kira will come back. They'll change her alot and give her a plotline that is completely seperate from the Black Dragon, but I can see a character like this returning, revamped. Mavado is another possibility. Someone that the MK team never really had a chance to delve into story-wise that could fit into the new MK. That's why I honestly don't see anyone from MK1 or MK2 returning (except for Sub and Scorpion).

Every interview I've seen with Boon has him saying that he wants to start with a clean slate, and do something completely new and different for the next gen MK. Heck, they've even made a game that seems specifically designed to kill a VAST majority of the characters. To me, that says alot. We might see a few returnees here and there, but I wouldn't expect anything anywhere near 10 and certainly not 20.

Sub-Zero: See above
Reptile: Out of all the classic ninjas his story seems to be evolving the best and am interested to see where Armageddon will take him.
Reiko: I can totally see him taking over as the new villain he has ambition a great look and will be a nice way to ween fans off of Kahn.
Kenshi: Has telekenesis so it can keep ermac fan boys happy and has ties to OIA.
Kabal: The true leader of the Black Dragon.
Mavado: Every gang needs a rival and I like his look, and storyline has good potential.
Quan Chi: The most devious villain in the entire series, great look and story and he definitely has the potentail to weasle his way out of armageddon.
Kung Loa: I would like to see him step out of Lui's shadow and follow in his ancestors footsteps.
Jade: Gameplay wise she's amazing, and how I see Kitana taking the Edenian throne after sindel dies in armageddon I can see her as the protector of edenia.
Li Mei: I want her to finally turn evil I can see her ruling at reikos side.
Tanya: That lovable bitch, her leaking edenian secrets to reiko and plotting to over throw Li Mei as his queen it's like a soap opera!
