MK has done a lot of Shinto mythology.

Now they've added Aztec mythology in Kotal Kahn.

Wonder if they'll do Greek/Roman & Norse myths.

Perhaps next game they can add a viking-like character. Something Odin-Thor-Loki-like.

Any mythologies you guys think MK should add?

I think for the most part MK should remain in eastern mythology seeing how it was meant to be a homage to Kung Fu movies. Don't abandon the roots. Expand upon them.

I'm not against them exploring other mythologies and cultures but I think most of the outer realms should remain mostly asian inspired.

Shinnok seemed Hades/Pluto to me.

Raiden went from Raijin to mad Zeus!

You got Hades from Shinnok? Because he always seemed like a pretty obvious homage of Lucifer to me. His origin is literally a spin on the fallen angel mythos.

Yeah Shinnok always seemed like a take on Satan to me fallen angel = fallen elder god, one was banished to hell (I think?) while one was banished to the netherrealm (Pretty much MK's hell) ill admit I don't know a lot about satan and that stuff but they sound somewhat similar.

When it comes to Greek mythology especially surrounding demigods like Hercules, I think Taven and Daegon, the two demigods do have a bit of divine Greek nostalgia within them.

Sheeva is a reference to Hindu mythology. Her name obviously is based on Shiva, the Hindu god of destuction. Her ending in Armageddon also had her become a god of destruction like Shiva. Her four arms could also be considered a reference because many gods/deities in Hindu have four arms. I would really like if they added more Hindu themes characters, or made the shokan Hindu themed

I believe the original backstory for Shinnok is that he actually defeated Lucifer and took control of the Netherrealm after he was banished.

he's directly inspired by satan. Satan was gods top guy and was banished to Hell for interfering with mortal lives (adam&eve) shinnok was banished to the netherrealm realm for interfering with taven & daegons quest by helping daegon. I like the idea of cherry picking some mythos from cultures that fit in the world of MK. Kotal was a great addition with his Aztec inspiration. There are a few others that would work nice.
Argus...
Some of Havik`s outfit seems Roman-ish.

Some of us tried making Kali sprite edits from Sheeva.

I don`t recall it being stated that helping Daegon as the reason for Shinnok`s banishment. He wanted to rule Earthrealm, and his fight with Raiden tore dimensional barriers, and nearly wiped out the Saurians.

Isn't Moloch loosely based on some actual myth too?

And yes, someone said it earlier, but Shinnok is actually supposed to have overthrown Lucifer in the Netherrealm. Lucifer exists in the MK mythos. I honestly don't remember if hell actually exists in MK (separate from the Netherrealm) or if we're just left to assume the two are one in the same. But Lucifer is actually part of Shinnok's backstory.

As someone said earlier, I'd like more focus and expansion on the East Asian mythological elements while still being able to explore elements from other mythologies.

Moloch comes from Molekh, a god worshiped by the Ammonites, a related Canaanite group to the Israelites.

They seemed to never want to go full bore with the Native American folklore. Nightwolf is very generic; at best he is mildly Navajo and at worst he's a stereotype. I've said time and time again that Nightwolf is one of the worst wastes of potential in the MK series. I don't know if this was ever confirmed, but I think the original intention for Nightwolf was to be a skinwalker, and then the whole animality/MK Annihilation thing happened and it tainted that idea.

Seriously, I think they think they're making Nightwolf the mysterious Native Shaman, but the result is Chief Bromden with under-explained abilities.
