Every returning character (but Ermac) so far was in Deadly Alliance...

Sub-Zero
Raiden
Kano
Quan Chi
Kung Lao
Kitana
Reptile

Ermac is an exception since at the time of DA he wasnt as popular.

I have a feeling MKX will be taking all of the most popular characters, plus a couple lesser known characters, and a bunch of newbies. The only DA returnees I dont see returning are Shang and Cyrax. They are likely replaced by Mileena and Ermac. But my point is the MKX roster will be similar to how DA's was set up.

For MK11, I hope it will be similar to Deception's set up. Tanya, Shinnok, Fujin, and Reiko will probably be in MKX whether it be main roster or DLC. So I hope that MK11 will give a few DA and Deception characters a second chance. In Deception, they took less popular characters like Jade, Sindel, Nightwolf, Kabal, Ermac, Noob, and Smoke a second shot and they all came out great.

For one, MKX takes 25 years..... Johnny, Sonya, Kano, Jax and Kung Lao are all human. They will be pretty freaking old by MK11. Hopefully they will give a handful of DA/Deception characters a second chance like Bo Rai Cho, Li Mei, Frost, Sareena, Havik, Hotaru, and Kira.

MKX is MKX, but would be better if we get something more like MKD, and MKD probably will be received better if was like MKX.

MKD was to be more conservative from MKDA roster - only 6 playable characters from MKDA, 7 if you count Noob from MKTE, from 24 characters -, and I think that MKX was to be less conservative from MK9 roster.

Even if you think that MKDA was basically characters from MK1-UMK3 and one from MK4, and the rest new characters, won't be enterely true. We won't get enough new characters, and we will get for sure more characters post-UMK3 aside of Quan Chi and Kenshi.

Maybe in names, but for me, the essence from rosters are more like the numbers of comebacks from last game, comebacks from the series, and new characters.

Geez I hope you are wrong because DA had the worst roster of any MK game I ever played (except for The regular MK3 game) and I think you are sorely mistaken if you think they are the most popular MK characters maybe back then but certainly not now you need to do some googling my friend and find out who the most popular and most used characters are from the last game becaus it will be very different to your roster!

We already know Shinnok is going to be in the story. Tanya does have relevance in the story.... plus she was almost DLC in MK9.

Agreed; gameplay>roster every time. Without gameplay being balanced & done well it wouldn't matter how good the roster was because every character would play badly and the game would be boring to the majority of players.

On topic: I see the similarities noted by OP & it's not the first time people have noted them, but I don't think the MKX roster can said to be or will be like any we've had before, especially seeing as we don't know what the final characters are. We could end up with Mileena, Sonya, Jax, Johnny, Liu and Erron Black, Jacqui, Kung Jin & Takeda then the rest be MK4 characters that weren't in DA so then the roster wouldn't be anything like DA's or Deception's. MKX's roster isn't MK4's, isn't MK DA's or Deception's, it certainly isn't MK:A's or MK9.2, it's a different roster for a wholly different game titled MKX.

Add Liu and Mileena since they're very likely with Shinnok possibly trailing them. Baraka, Shao Kahn, and Liu were also the only non DA chacters in vs DCU but Baraka's pretty much cannon fodder anyway.
