If NRS are indeed anouncing MKX on the 2nd of June, I want the game to have a loooong life like SF4. I loved MK9 and its sad to see NRS stop supporting the game after komplete edition was out. I want MKX to be updated yearly at least for 5 years with patches fixes characters and more. I want it to be the definitive MK game. An MK game that would rival SF in EVO.
Make it happen NRS.

I hate and have always hated how the Street Fighter series releases updated versions to the games. Champion Edition, Turbo, Hyper, Alpha, etc...
Just make a new game already instead of milking one product with slight upgrades and variations. Street Fighter 4 is about to release it's fifth incarnation called Ultra Street Fighter 4. The game came out six years ago, how about making Street Fighter 5 already?
I don't think Ed Boon is down with ripping his fans off with five different versions of the same game. A round or two of DLC with some new characters and skins is all that is needed. Don't change a damn thing with the mechanics or characters when DLC is added either.
Street Fighter is the perfect example of what NOT to do!

I want MK10 to have a long life too, but yearly updates and patches is not the way to go about it. MK9 did it the right way, with releasing one round of DLC and then giving us the Komplete edition later on. I'd be miffed if they were still releasing DLC for it now instead of working on the sequel.
It's an educated guess that MK10 will release in 2015. If they're still doing updates to it in 2020 like you said, I don't think the majority of fans will be happy about it. By then we should have a sequel to Injustce, an MK spin-off game, and perhaps MK11 being worked on.
The Street Fighter model of repackaging the same product over and over and over again with slight modifications each time is a great way to milk gullible fans in to being ripped off.

The game's life span will live or die by the online netcode. Mark my words.

It doesnt have to be dlc. A better online experience like what Casselman said can help a lot.

It would be nice if we could get 6 DLC characters like Injustice did over the original 4 but besides that, I wouldn't bet on anything more.

A great online system is a must for replay value and longevity. NetherRealm really need to nail it for MK10.

If the online is terrible, might as well hand MK10 a shovel.
If it has excellent online it will last for a long while.

If you're arguing that the updates pushed SF5 further into the future, then I get that.
However, no one can call the updates rip-offs. They were good deals. If you price by character, it's a hell of a buy, and considering the time/resources that it takes to rebalance a game, Street Fighter fans have much to be grateful for since the 2012 update was free.

It's not milking if the fans keep asking for more content, also aside from Super SF4, in which a new disc was mandatory, you could the rest of the updates with the original SSF4 disc, and all of them were good deals, especially Ultra, imo.
Also, SF4 has aged extremely well and still feels current, there is nothing wrong with supporting the game and the community with yearly updates.

ehh not necessarily. For an online community? Sure, a good netcode is absolutely vital, but for competitive tournament play? Not really.
