MKX: The MK8 that we never got?
After Armageddon, we were getting hints as to where the next MK will go. It was going to be a more serious, more dark, gritty Mortal Kombat, with many fighters dead in Armageddon and only a hand were going to return along with lots of brand new characters. But what actually happened was... MK vs DCU. And then midway got in trouble, while the team startex to work on next game(MK9).Eventually Midway went bankrupt and WB games acquired the license and the Midway Chicago studio.
The story continued from Armageddon in MK9 but it went back to the past and changed some events during the MK1-3 time-line. At the end of MK9 many fighters died with few survivors and the events that would lead to the Armageddon were averted.
Now MKX continues from the last game, it's gonna be a more serious, more dark, gritty Mortal Kombat with most of the fighters dead at the end of last game and few survivors along with many new fighters.
This sounds to me like they never totally scraped the idea of what MK8 was originally going to be, it merely got delayed. In a way it was for better i guess, we got the amazing games: Mortal Kombat 2011 & Injustice, and now MKX is coming on an evem better hardware with an even better technology.
Totally psyched for MKX.

I remember how it was said they were gonna swipe the slate clean. Seems like we're there now indeed. And I agree... things look to work out great this way.
MKX seems like it's gonna rock!

Yeah. I'm thinking this may finally be the MK game we were hoping for when they started talking about a dark and serious next game following MKA. But i hope some of the dead characters in MK9 will one day be back. I just personally can do without them for a whole era/generation.

I'm thinking that MK9 is MK8 and MKX is actually MK9. However, MK9 (2011) was just a Trilogy remake. So I actually agree on that MKX is the MK8 that we never got.

It's not a total clean slate as there are returning characters. It's also going to be on PS3 and XBox360.
MKX does look amazing thus far

I did want them to go forward completely with a largely new cast with a few returning faves like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden. But I don't want all the characters from the old games to disappear.
So either they keep those characters playable just have their appearance in the games be non-canon OR leave all the dead characters dead and bring them back in MK Armageddon 2. Which would also be non-canon.

This. I'm hoping they are just bringing back mk4-onward characters along with the obvious ones like scorp, sub and Raiden along with new characters. Jolie they don't act like the others never existed. I'm sure the dead ones from mk9 will be seen again.

I know ppl say they don't want certain kharacters to come back but with this new technology, they could make anyone look awesome. I.like all the variations n how great everything looks from the special moves to the fatalities n im.curious to what they can do with these kharacters.
No, it's MK 10. MK 2011 was MK9. It was a continuation to the waste that was Armageddon. Or should I say the opening cinematic seeing how that's the only thing that ended up being worth anything in that game (and it was dumb as shit) And like it or not Armageddon still counts as a whole game.

I am sure, if any ideas were concocted during the time after Armageddon, that, they may very likely have resurfaced again in MKX. However due to the change in narrative (Raiden changing the outcome of the story) it can not be identical to the direction it could have gone (in mk8).
But having the game be 25 years in the future means we will mostly likely see the events leading up to Armageddon in a new fashion due to the change Raiden has let occur. AND we will see the events after Armageddon, with Cassie and who knows who else?
Either that or the events of Armageddon do not even happen at all.

Yes, but thankfully NRS isn't working on last gen. I'm so glad they are using a different team to port it to last gen so NRS can put all their time into the current gen.
