I expect the game to have about 30 characters. So I just filled those slots with my favourites. I would be more than happy if we see some more fighters in the game but these are the ones that are essential to me. I am perfectly happy with Reiko and could tolerate Havik ;). On the other hand I belive Shinnok should be a proper unplayable boos. Ultimate vilain in the game.

I know there would be as many lists as people on this forum. Some people would argue that this roster is boring cause it contains mostly fighters form last game and that it should contain more(some) characters from post MK4 era. I am presonaly not a fan of anything that came between MK4 and MK9. I waited many years for MK9 (which was like dream come true to me) and I am not ready to say goodbye to those characters.

You basically want the same roster replacing Stryker, Kabal, Baraka and Sheeva with Tanya, Fujin and Kai. Imo that would f*ck up the continuation of the game. There would be no point in everything that happened in MK9 if they bring 80% of the dead characters (that JUST died) back. I think there should be room for post-MK3 characters to be developed in this one.

Well died just like Sub Zero did. Did you read the twiter post from Ed Boon who said it will be the sequel to MK9 but at the same time not? All those theories about parallel universes, meaning of the letter X and so on. I am sure we will see many of those dead characters in the new game. Maybe not exactly like in my list but they will return...

Well Sub Zero is Sub Zero. He is the poster boy of the game along with Scorpion so duh he would return. Comparing him to Nightwolf and Kabal doesn't make much sense. I would bet money on Kabal, Stryker, Nightwolf, Sindel, Sheeva, Jax, Kitana, Jade and Kung Lao not returning in this one. Smoke might survive through his enenra form and return, seeing how his popularity rose after MK9 and Liu Kang might return as the Fire God from his ending. Still all these characters have missed a few games so I wouldn't be surprised if they took a break.
I think they should deffinitely be replaced by Tanya, Fujin, Reiko, Kai, Havik, Ashrah, Sareena and Nitara in MKX.

I am aware that most probably some of those characters will stay dead. But I dont think it will have anything to do with the story. They will find the way to bring some of the most popular characters back by means of super convoluted story (time continuum was disturbed, parallel universes and stuff like that).

But there is one important aspect you are missing here. Perfect Legend won Evo twice with Kung Lao. CDjr was one of the most succesful players and won many MLG tournaments with Jax. I was watching sttreams from those tournamnets and Ed Boon and his design team were present on many of these events. I don't think they will turn their back on the competitive scene by removing favourite characters.

I know that I am contradicting myself here a little bit cause Kabal was one of the most picked characters and he is not on my list... but I just dont like him, at least not his MK9 design.

I doubt you'll see that many returning characters. Especially since Boon said that 2 of the new characters are amongst his favorites. I think we'll see more than 4 new fighters.

Replace Kung Lao and Shang Tsung with Havik and Bo' Rai Cho and I'm on board.

I hope in the game, we see that one character avatar that rotates into the dragon symbol like how Mortal Kombat 3 had it with Smoke.

I agree they will deff bring some of the dead characters back, but not yet. I think people are getting their hopes up with this parallel universe because some of their favorite characters got killed, but IMO they did that to justify the return of Subby's human form mostly. Don't get me wrong I'd love some of the dead ones to come back some time in the future. Just not yet. We got a nice glimpse in Story Mode of their stories and personalities (mostly unexplored characters like Stryker, Nightwolf, Smoke, Jade, etc) and I'd love to see them do the same for post-MK3 characters now.

As for your thoughts about Evo, I don't think it matters if Kung Lao and Kabal were top tier at all. Kitana has been difficult to pick up in past games, yet they made her the easiest to play with in this one. They could revamp a lot of MK4-MKD characters and make Reiko, for example, as good as Kabal was in MK9. The same way Ashrah could turn out bottom-tier like Jade. Do you think if they nerf Kabal to bottom-tier next game, people would care how good he was in MK9? They would use the better characters in Tournaments. I just don't think tier-lists matter on who returns in the next games and who doesn't. That is solely a matter of story continuation.

I guess we need to wait with further conclusions for some more informations. E3 will be a good indication what aproach they will take with new characters. I REALLY hope that if some of the original characters will not appear in the game than their movesets will not be taken and reused for others.

Me too. The main reasons most of the fanbase were pulling for him last time was so we could all say that everyone from MK1-UMK3 made it in. I doubt Rain will get as much support as last time. That said I think he gained a new crop of fans and got treated pretty decently. If he doesn't return I won't bitch or anything as there are other characters who need their time on stage.

But I'll still have my fingers crossed. I'll never forget you Prince Rain...

I wouldn't be so quick to cross him off. I myself didn't really care for him before, but after MK9 he became one of my mains and climbed his way up to the top of my fav characters (after Mileena and Sheeva of course). Now that most of the Edenians are dead, I think they could take advantage of his story and maybe allign him with Tanya. Both traitors to their realms, it would fit perfectly. Plus his powers are really unique among the rest of the characters so I wouldn't be so sure he would be absent from MKX.

I could kiss you! Those are excellent reasons for him to return and a Tanya/Rain alliance? That would be absolutely delicious. I pray the developers are really thinking long and hard about this and aren't going to just dismiss him...if they haven't already.

But I'll keep the hope alive. Especially considering that Kitana, Sindel, & Jade are currently out of the picture.
