I like the story but I think the intro interactions are far more interesting than the whole story mode...

-Ermac having Shao Kahn's soul not explored

-Actually revive Kitana and have her mourn for Jade in the actual story instead of what if.

-Not exploring the Reiko accords or having Reiko or at least Havik on the roster

-No mention of Bi Han, especially when we're having the first intro of Scorp and Sub still in the game, I'll quote

Scorpion: Murderer..

Sub-Zero: I tire of maintaining my innocence

Scorpion: I will remove you of your burden..

I mean that whole intro made us speculate that this Sub-Zero is in fact Bi Han purified, what a waste!

-Actually have Kung Lao do something and maybe try to get Liu back to the good side instead of having the likes of Kung Jin around.

I'm pretty sure the Reiko Accords will be explored in the comics.

As for Scorpion and Sub-Zero, there are a number of things I've seen that indicate that when that original trailer was made, they still had no real idea what they were going to do with the storyline. That's probably when they designed a lot of the other non-canon costumes too.

There was a lot of "what the heck?" type of dropped plot threads.

Kitana's "mournful" variation implied she came back alive... but Jade didn't. Instead, her human appearances wasn't accurate, and Jade doesn't even get mentioned once.

Mythologies is still canon, and yet there wasn't anything about Quan Chi's fake amulet or betrayal of Shinnok this go around. I found that bizarre.

There's a lot of other ones, like Erron Black claiming he killed Kobra, Goro appearing with all four of his limbs, and Bi Han getting mentioned by Sareena but never explored beyond that.

The intros have a LOT of subplots that don't go anywhere, from Mileena's love for her sister, to Shao Kahn's soul in Ermac, to Jerrod's soul in Ermac, to quite a few Earthrealmers supporting Mileena's rule over Kotal Kahn's, etc.

I agree with what you said. I loved the story mode too, but it definitely was wtf moments for me. I mean what is the point of having Kitana be human on the roster and having a mournful variation? And than come to find out she never was back to life?? And where the hell is Jade? And I agree with Reiko and Havik, they might die in the comic which is why they were absent in the game. But damn, at least show a flash back lol

Sub says "our innocence",not "my innocence". check the intro again. it's always been "our innocence",since E3.

I think they are saving Jade, Bi-Han/Noob and possibly Cyrax for a later game. I found it odd that Jade was completely absent, not even part of Quan Chi's revenant army. That just seems fishy to me lol

I thought we would at least get a mention of Jade or Cryax but they are nowhere to be found besides the Cryax assist kombat modifier, and possibly in one of the TYM deaths, a bunch of bombs drop to the ground and you hear that weird little sound the cyborgs are known to make lol

Missed opportunities [IMO]:

1. The big one here is not exploring/developing the supporting characters that made appearances in story mode (Fujin, Li Mei, Tanya, Rain, Sareena, Bo rai Cho, and from the comic Havik and Reiko.) They all offered some relevance to be there in the first place, but still they were put on the bench in favor of the revenant characters (Jax, Kung Lao, Kitana, Lui Kang) and the pointless new characters (Erron Black, Ferra/Torr) and the one's that didnt need to be there (Kenshi, Sonya or Cage). Also, Tremor should have made a cameo.

2. Not exploring the chaosrealm at all. Also the kamidogu daggers. (Or setting up either to be explored in the next game)

3. The way the wrote and enacted the whole Kotal/Mileena saga. Their roles/armies should have been reversed, unless you want to believe a large group of new characters just came in out of no where and took charge of everything between games. Having it conclude midgame with an underwhelming death.

4. Factions were underrepresented despite the whole emphasis on the 'faction war' thing. They also could have bumped it up to 7 factions.

5. The initial roster size should have been at least 26-28.

6. The absence of certain characters like Noob and jade did not make sense given the other mk9ers that made an appearance.

7. All the new characters kept to themselves. It was the core 4 and Kotal's army. They should have been more diverse (new netherrealm characters, new mileena supporter character, new black dragon/red dragon character)

8. Shinnok as boss. it was dumb.
