The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think this is true. The 'X' suffix is very encompassing and the reveal trailer only shows us Sub Zero vs Scorpion. The press release goes on to state that we can play different versions of characters much like in MKT on the PS1. Rumor has it that MKX will involve multiple different timelines, one being post Reboot, another post Armageddon and perhaps more. Also, the stage in the reveal trailer has this structure in the background that is reminiscent of a Star Gate portal. Could this be a time warp?

So you can pick the MKvDC Graphics & Gameplay of Kano & Raiden then pick the MK9 Graphics & Gameplay of Kung Lao & Jax LOL. Just kidding but if this is true it would be cool.

I'm not especially attracted to the idea, because I thought that's what MK9 was supposed to be.

I think the only reasons that NRS will involve these multiple parallel universes are because maybe they reevaluated everything storywise in MK9 and felt there were some hits and misses therefore creating some backdoor to retell the original trilogy more precisely to the canon somewhere in the future games(wishful thinking). But I really would hate for them to make new MK the same as Injustice storywise. It would be boring and repetitive.

Not to mention the enormous amount of time, they have to make this game.

"For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style"

This really tells me that each character will have a different build playstyle, as in, for example, you can plays as a Defense build Sub-Zero or Offensive build Sub-Zero or (hopefully) both (because I like BALANCE).

I seriously doubt it's saying you can play as MKvsDCU or MK9 Sub-Zero.

MK9 was MKTrilogy. I really think this game is trying to move beyond just retracing old ground. Personally, I'd like to see the rotating portraits from MK4 make a return, using that to choose your Character Build.
