i dont know abour 2d but it could be 2.5d. reason why is because ed boon said they were doing motion capture for mk9 sometime a go. then i saw on the history of fatalities that they used motion capture for mk4....which is basically 2.5d with a side step button. so it might be 2.5d but i think they are going to do a 3d game that is similar to mk vs dc gameplay.

Ed boons twitter dropped the hint by saying EEE! meaning E3 , shortly after he had another post DDD ....... which would most likley imply 3D.

yeah i know its probably going to be 3d but they should make it
make it 2.5d with no side step. bring back the fast paced combo bloody mortal kombat MAN!! i am tired of the slow 3d games. but the mk team is wrong because they are selling out to get little kids to buy their games and forgeting the old people who made mk what it was. mk got popular when it was 2d. so keep it that way. stop changing stuff!!! unless it's really innovative and cool like SKATE. dont fix what aint broken. street fighter went 2.5d and the new sonic 4 is going to be 2.5d. thats the best way for 2d games to crossover into next gen gaming. espcially 2d fighting games. you dont see tekken, soul calibur, virtua fighter going 2d do you. it wouldnt feel right. it took street fighter one time to figure out that 3d was not the way a 2d game should be played. mk needs to get back to the original concept, and that's a 2d bloody dark humor fighting game, with a solid story.

just my opinion though!!!
