I think the next generation title sounds pretty decent, like explained...the tournament is held once every generation. Also looking that it is the first MK on the next gen consoles.

I think just Mortal Kombat would be fine. The whole extra title thing might get too old.

Alternatively they could call it something else entirely like "Legends of Kombat" or something. Change the title to something different but people still know its a Mortal Kombat game.

And whoever said that they should set it 500 years after Armageddon, I think that is right on the money. You wanna restart a game franchise? Set it in a different time. Most of the old characters are dead anyway whether it was in battle or just of old age, and only a select few original characters remain. At least playable ones anyway. I reckon leave no more than maybe 7 characters in the series that can fight. And only if they have a good reason to be alive after 500 years.

Sub-Zero - Survives as an old man, aged and yet un-aged thanks to the power of the dragon medallion (see the sketch of him unmasked as they released MKDA. Most of you should know it). He is a wiser, more powerful fighter, and yet very much alone. All his comrades are long gone, the Lin Kuei clan having long since been destroyed. He wanders the earth a shadow of a man. Once a great leader, now a warrior without an army. In search of that one great fighter, skilled enough to defeat him. Of a glorious death befitting a warrior of legend.

Kenshi - Upon his death amidst the throes of battle, much like his ancestors, Kenshi's soul entered the blade he carried. Out of respect and honour for his skill as a swordsman, Kenshi's enemies built a funeral pyre and burnt his body along with his mythical sword. However, while the fire consumed and disintergrated his body, the sword remained unmarked. The leader of this small warrior army, a powerful warlord and superstitious man, took the sword where it remained hidden and untouched for hundreds of years. It endured many wars and remained under the watchful eye of generation upon generation of great leaders. Then the biggest war in 600 years, the War of the Harvest, began to reach its apex. The fortress where the sword was held had been breached. Seidan rebels reduced it to rubble. Everyone inside were destroyed and the sword itself was snapped in two. Instantly Kenshi's soul was released from its steel confines killing many rebels in the process. Now, existing as a wraith and making his way to Seido itself, Kenshi searches for the two halves of his ancestral sword in the hope he might be able to restore his honour and take his rightful place among his ancestors.

Those are just a couple of ideas I just came up with for MK8. I had a few ideas for other returning fighters but its pretty late here so I might post them later if anyone is interested.
