With the countdown to June 2nd, it's almost a guarantee (FINGERS CROSSED) that MK10 is upon us! Let us speculate who will return from MK9's storyline based on many characters endings. This is purely speculation and not a confirmation. Although I strongly believe that the story will involve Shinnok and the Netherrealm trying to take over Earthrealm and Outworld. Below I've provided characters images and short descriptions of why they may be included in MK10's roster.

Shinnok

Quan Chi--"Your plan worked to perfection my lord"

Shinnok--"Shao Kahn was blinded by rage...how easily he was convinced that the Elder gods would ignore his merging the realms"

Quan Chi--"Yet the thunder god still lives?"

Shinnok--"No matter...neither earthrealm nor outworld can now withstand the netherrealms's onslaught.. It is time!... Soon I will be free...Earthrealm and Outworld will be ours."

Liu Kang
Liu Kang believed he was the only one capable of defending earthrealm against outside threats. During the invasion, Raiden had been more burdened than ally.. He demanded the Elder gods grant him thunder god status. In a one match tournament, Liu Kang defeated his former friend and mentor. Liu Kang's request was granted, he was made a god. The new protector of earthrealm.

Kabal
Kabal met with the doctor who developed Kano's eye laser, Kabal was rebuilt..he is better than he was before. Stronger, faster. He will need to be, in order to repay his debt.

Subzero (Cyber Subzero)
According to Cyber Subzero's ending, Shao Kahn absorbed his soul and transformed Kahn into a badass samurai looking Cyber Subzero. There are no texts or dialogue in this ending. This would be a nice alternate costume, don't think many of us would want this to be Subzero's primary outfit, would rather have something new or a variation of his Deception suit.

Bo Rai Cho
Seen here in Kung Lao's ending, that he helped the Great Kung Lao (ancestor of current one) train to defeat Goro.

Johnny Cage
One of the very few survivors after Shao Kahn's invasion where Sindel killed many of earthrealm's warriors. Here we see him more powerful after supposedly defeating Kahn, Raiden sends him to Seido, the realm of order, where he can be taught to control his power.

Nightwolf
Here we see Nightwolf as a werewolf. His spirit wolf aided him in the defeat of Shao Kahn, he returned to his home in reach of the spirit realm... during their ritual, his spirit returned to him changed. Kahn tethered his soul to the spirit wolf to cheat death, now corrupted with Shao Kahn's evil, Nightwolf has transformed into his animality. Through Nightwolf, Shao Kahn will conquer earthrealm, one mortal at a time.

I would love to see this scenario, and something I've actually asked for since before MK9, that Nightwolf has the ability to transform into a werewolf. This should make him much more interesting.

Havik
Appearing in Noob's Saibot's ending, we see him partnering up with Havik. Clearly Havik is one for chaos, and a great choice to bring in MK10. He has a slight adjustment here from his Deception primary outfit.

King Jerrod
Ermac's ending shows that all the souls that were infused inside of him, struggled for dominance. Only one had the strength and will to calm the chaos. The conflict resolved. Ermac returned to Outworld to reunite with his past. He was actually King Jerrod, husband to Queen Sindel before she was corrupted, and father of Princess Kitana.

New Tarkatan female character
As seen in Baraka's ending (second character from left in image), the Tarkatan's replaced the Centaur's as the emperor's (Kahn's) favorite race, after Baraka slaying Shang Tsung as the impersinator of Shao Kahn.

This warrior can prove interesting. She has 2 blades on each arm rather than one, though they appear to be shorter in length than Baraka's. She has a cool look to her with that skull-like helmet and body armor.

I know some of you may argue and say that there is already a Tarkatan female, yes I know Mileena is half Tarkatan. But a true female Tarkatan would make a good new character IMO.

Strange woman in Jade's ending
After Jade defeated Kahn, she fell into a dream like state and found herself walking in an unknown realm. Jade met with a shimmering woman who did not reveal her name, but spoke with an heir or regal authority. The woman possessed Jade's body and emerged in the waking world.

She might be an interesting character who can introduce a new realm with other new characters.

CSZ's ending reminds me too much of The Lich King.
Many of the fans think Shinnok'll be unplayable boss. Though i liked playing as him in MK4, i think he should be an unplayable boss in this new MK.
If Liu Kang returns as evil, Bo Rai Cho must return, as we see in Shang Tsung's ending in MK2011.
I don't think Johnny Cage's and Sonya's ending will be canon.
I want Chameleon. But with a better story this time. I want his MK3 or MKvsSF3 animation look and moves. I just hated him in Armageddon.

Goodness I love Havik. I hope they give him a role in MK10. He could be my favorite MK character if hie was fleshed out more.

Shinnok is one of those "tiny" bosses, so I think he should playable. It worked just fine in MK4.

I'm pro-Bo-Rai-Cho, but he better not return puking and farting. How can someone so sloppy be the Grand Master Daddy Trainer of Liu Kang. His character doesn't match his story, and I will always write him off until that is fixed.

I agree about Bo Rai Cho. Would like to see a more serious side of him without the barfing, farting and lame noises. Doesn't seem likely though lol.

Kabal looks awesome. And so does Liu Kang.
Sub zero, human or cyborg, he must return. Bo Rai Cho, if he returns, I would like to see him changed:
- remove most of the fat and make him buff like the rest
- no more puking or sh*t like that
- make him serious
- he can keep his drinking obsession though.
Don't really care about the others from these though.
Anyway I'll be happy if Sub Zero, Kitana and Stryker return, cuz these are my favourites.

Fujin:

This is a no brainer that really doesn't even need an explanation.

Kai:

Same as Fujin.

Kenshi:

Given his popularity and DLC status from MK9, I think he'll make an appearance this time around.

Sidenote: Why do people want Shinnok unplayable? You don't have to be unplayable to be a tough boss. Just look at Shadow Jago (Killer Instinct), Unknown (Tekken Tag), M. Bison/Akuma/Seth (Street Fighter).

I plan on maining Shinnok so I'd be super disappointed if he wasn't playable.

No, Bo Rai Cho needs to keep the fat. He looks good fat. He's just as powerful without being buff, and the diversity is needed in Mortal Kombat.
