I was playing SSF4, and it struck me that it loads so much quicker than MKDC, because Capcom only has to make and load half of the stage essentially.
Am I the only one who would prefer shorter load times in MK at the cost of simpler backgrounds?
At the very least we need a “Rematch” option.

Load times are pretty important to me., but a factor of 2 is nothing. They can speed up load times just by using lower resolution, or repeating textures, fewer texture stages, fewer polygons, modular geometry or whatever. I imagine there's a lot more that's different about SF than only seeing half the background.
For sure rematch option is great. Even if load times were instantaneous.

The main difference is that Capcom uses a fixed camera, so that alone means for backgrounds they only have to load half as much geometry, and maybe about half as many textures.
But you are right about using more repeatable textures. That could help shorten the MK loading times.
I don't think we want to take out any detail from the characters.

I have never once been bothered by the load times in an MK game and frankly, I think it's incredibly whiny.
I mean, are you late for an appointment or something and just HAVE to get one last fight in before you leave the house? What's the goddamn rush?

The load times in MK were great, until MKDC...
(They were REALLY short in the 2D MK games)
It just bothers me to wait more than 10 seconds for a fight to start.

I like loading times... It helps me take a look at some of the characters' moves before the match just so I don't have to pause during mid-fight just to see what I'm doing wrong.
I enjoy loading times, it doesn't bother me whatsoever.

What game do you play that shows you how to do a characters moves in the loading screen?
Or do you mean that you look at a strategy guide?

All the people I know don’t look at strategy guides when waiting for a fight to start.
Good use of loading times!

maybe they could give you a mini game to play while waiting like dragonballz games.
ss4 times are EXTRA FAST, almost too fast lol.

Fast load times are nice, but I played a hell of a lot of original Playstation back in the day, so load times are something that I accepted and never bothered me much. MKT was particularly bad for it on PSX. Heck, nowoadays I'm still surprised when something like SSF4 loads quickly/instantaneously.

plenty of games with load times utilize the time to show controls and tips for the game...a lot of it is not always helpful but still it gives a player ideas to the controls or moves. a few examples would be...the WWE SvsR games or even Modern Warfare 2 has little tips before multiplayer matches. sometimes its not even tips or controls...even story elements are sometimes implemented.
loading times are not really a bad thing. everyone mentions SSF4 as an example...think about that for a minute. the characters lack the details of realism and are basically cartoons. that alone will cut back on texture loading. the only reason the dragonball games had load times is because of the massive 3d sandbox arenas...otherwise the load times would have been the same way. load times will be needed for cinematics and story cut scenes in whichever modes and if you want quality images to represent the story it needs to load. its that simple...otherwise we will get simple still frame image bios, narrative story and endings. that is not a bad thing but i rather have cool cut scenes and that takes time to load.
