Ok so in the recent trailer, Kitana does this really cool fan lift that reminds me of Fujin's wind lift move.

That said, two questions:

1. Is that effect the power being emitted from Kitana's fans or is it a wind effect?
2. If it is in a wind effect, are you guys ok with this or should the wind be invisible, you know like real wind?

My fear is that if Fujin is in, his wind will look like this and I really don't like that idea, it's too cartoonish if you know what I mean. Same with Ermac. The green effect when he does his telekinesis isn't necessary and it has more power in my eyes when you don't see it.

Thoughts?

I imagined in my head that the wind effects would be invisible and as Fujin walked through let's say the Snow Forest you would see the effects come in to play as leaves and debris from the ground started to float and blow around just from his mere presence lol. It looks so cool in my head.

But I guess you guys are right. I did some poking around and every "wind based" character I've seen so far has those visible wind effects, so maybe invisible wind effects is easier said than done. It is a video game after all like you said, so I guess it'll be fine. I just love the realistic approach that they have with MKX and wanted them to stay away from that cartoonish MK9 look.

Don't get me wrong, I trust NRS's judgement. They've been doing great so far with everything.

It's coming from her/her fans but it looks a lot more like wind this time for some reason.

It's probably the best rendition of Kitana's fan lift. The wind effect is a really nice touch.

They seem to be trying to ground the visual style more in the realm of reality for this one. Less bright colors, less halloweeny costumes, less neon glowing fireballs.

Still a Mortal Kombat game, so obviously not completely removing those things, just toning them down a notch, from what I can see in the trailers. There are still supernatural elements, I mean there's a damn bug lady. And Scorpion and Sub-Zero still need to be Yellow and Blue... but yeah. Just a more realistic-esque version of themselves. With a more reality based look? If that makes any sense?

Which frankly, is why I think people hoping for the Cyborgs and a half dozen more Ninjas are going to be let down.

They seem to do this every other or every couple games. They like to shake up the look and tone of the series...

1 was like an old-style Kung-Fu movie, mostly reality based...
2 was bright, colorful, loaded with ninjas and set in the fantasy of Outworld
3 removed all ninjas, had more human characters and realistic settings
UMK3 brought all the ninjas and colors from II back to 3
4 got more serious. Lots of hell, nether-realm, dark and blood
DA reminded me of 1. Lots of kung-fu martial arts tone. Realityesque
Deception got colorful and outlandish again, and made you fight a dragon
Armageddon was a grab bag of everything, and all over the place
MK vs DC seemed rather plain and serious again, to ground it with DC
And then 9... seemed colorful, over the top fantasy again (in the best way)

I mean, don't take everything I'm saying too rigidly. There's wiggle room in every game. The serious ones have their wacky aspects. The wacky ones have serious aspects. But yeah... the tone of the games has kind of a fluxuating curve to it... They mix it up a lot. While not completely re-inventing the wheel.

But I enjoy them all, by god.

They could make it look more like dust and dirt coming off of the ground I guess.. It doesn't bother me because I always saw her as the wind ninja anyways.

Doesn't D'Vorah also have a similar pop-up?

Yup.

She shoots a swarm of insects under the opponents feet causing them to go airborne, but I don't think they stay up for too long.

1. It looks like a magical wind effect Kitana conjures using her own magical abilities. Kitana simply just lifts her fans above her head with that blue smoke effect and *whoosh* the opponent's riding a lil' tornado. The fans seem to not do anything, lol.

2. The wind effect is okay by me, since it shows that they are able to animate wind for this game....and that can definitely mean that Fujin is in! :D

I thought so.

It must be universal. She uses it on Brood Mother, and Swarm Queen.

Best 2/3. Lol.

Can't find Venomous though, but she uses it the same way in both variations. That's also a demo build too so, we'll see.

Topic at hand - I like the effects.
