John Tobias should come back for MK7...Maybe this is what MK has been missing...
A lot of people think that MK was better in the old days, before Deception and Deadly Alliance. A lot of people didn't like MK4 either but Gold made up for that.
I haven't been able to figure out what MK has been missing either but many have their suggestions and this is mine. I think it has to do with John Tobias leaving Midway. He was the guy who made up all the stories for the characters and everything, so I feel that the past MK games that everyone likes better, WERE better because he had a big part in them.
Therefore, in order to make a great game of MK7 (which they will definately have graphic wise because of this new engine they are using) I think Tobias needs to come back, if only to help out with this game.
What are your thoughts?

Yeah, MK was better in the old days. Tobias was the main story writer and introduced such well developed characters as Tanya, Jarek, Sheeva, Reiko and Rain. A few of those are actually good concepts that I like, but I would rather see Vogel handle them instead... he seems to know how to make a storyline that isn't one dimensional.
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was 10x better than MK4, in the storyline department at least. The characters had depth for the very first time in the series... MK is 'missing' enjoyable gameplay, not storyline.

Tobias is a very good storyteller amd character creator, but I don't think it is nessary for him to be back to have an enjoyable MK game. I think that Vogel is a very good storyteller. I didn't enjoy Deception not just because IMO -> the super slow fighting , cheapness in throws, and over powerfull characters.
I feel that Deception doesn't have much of a story. Vogel did a good job in MK: DA introducting new characters in a plausable way. Also did a great job fleshing out the storyline in Deadly Alliance. I don't know what happened in Deception. IMO Deception is lite on story compared to past MKs. I guess that is what happens when you let kontect be the main goal of the game. Overall Vogel has given a good storyline once he could do it again. In terms of new characters having a coolness to them its hard to say.
MK4 is when the new charactes to me at least weren't as good as past new ones. I don't think MK4:Gold helped out by putting past MK characters into an already cookie cutter fighters.

I blame this on Konquest mode. Shujinko is a love/hate character, and he was the only character who received development outside of his bio this time around... in MK:DA, each character had extensive details revealed about what they had and were doing in the game. While MK:DA's Konquest mode wasn't "fun" so to say; it was very informative at least.

I think maybe Tobias and Vogel should work together in MK's future storyline developments. Both Johns have their obvious strengths in writing, and I think comibining the two MK writers could make a much stronger storyline.
Vogel is great for going into in depth details about many characters (seen mainly in MKDA's Konquest training) and events. Tobias paid far more attention to continuity, and is the co creator of MK.

I really like this idea, although i dont think it will happen, itd be nice to see what both could come up with. But i will say Vogel is more than capable of writing some good plots, i just think in deception he was given neither the material nor the chance to show his skills.
