I was playing Mortal Kombat 2 the other day, for nostalgic reasons y'know...
for some reason, Raiden and Sub-Zero were two of the characters who I enjoyed playing the most. I remember one of Raiden's fatalities required you to tap a button so as to electrocute your opponent until they exploded; and Sub-Zero's you had to first freeze the opponent, and then uppercut him in order to finish him off! I thought performing these fatalities were the most fun!
IMO, taking part in the vanquising of my opponent (in MK) was more fun than just sitting back and watching get killed, especially in the new MK, where Fatalities are almost cut-scenes...it gets kinda boring after 10 seconds.
The purpose of this message is to further explore this concept, and which fatalities could work in a similar way to Raiden and Sub-Zero's...
Hehe, any ideas?

It'll be satisfying to somewhat interact in a fatality, but I can't picture how to interact with other fatalities such as Kitana's and Sonya's Kiss of Death. Do you press a button to litterally plant one on the guy? *Laughs*

But seriously, it's not a bad idea, I'm just having trouble picturing the idea as an actual thing in the game. But it's not a bad idea at all.

Haha, well, I know that this won't be good for all fatalities...hehe tongue

But for example; Scorpion could launch his harpoon in a way similar to MKDA (to the head) and in order to rip it off, you would have to rapidly rotate the analog stick, similar to the game God of War, when rippiing a gorgon's head off... wink

Any more thoughts? (on this, or on the concept, overall)
Or Kung Lao aiming the hat to get the decap to work. I think they should do a few new ones like that but not make it the basis of all fatalities. The test your might style works ala Raiden's MK2 fatality. Sub Zero could charge a freeze ball and determine a deep freeze like MK2.

Oh! I just thought of an awesome idea! How about upon defeating the last boss, or a sub-boss, there would be a 'Finish Him' mini-game, where you'd have to execute him in a similar fashion as God of War.
So instead of just watching that super-difficult-to-defeat shokan drop to the floor after gettin the crap beaten out of you for 20 consecutive times,
you get the pleasure of tearing him apart after two long rounds, Shaolin Monks Kintaro style! glasses

maybe the player could control a projectile mid-flight (Kung Lao's hat, Sonya's kiss of Death, Scorp's Spear, etc.) mid flight, and wherever you hit determines how brutal, like chopping off the enemies legs, arms and other extremities, lodging the thing into their brain, or worse

controlling most projectiles would work with accuracy, power, and timing to connect on the head, arms, torso, or legs. the longer you press the special the harder the blow. if you press the special to fast it gives the opponnet time to dodge, but if you press the special not fast but not slow either than you'd connect, but not as powerfull as if you held the special.

just an idea.

I was originally thinking that the Kreate a Fatality shoulda been in a seperate menu like the KAK mode or even like the Create mode in Little Big Planet. With camera angles, choice of music, and a play by play as to what the character does to his/her opponent. Its easily possible due to the next generation power. I'd like to do something like that as an interactive finisher.

As dtoxz said...I think it would be a better idea to have that kinda thing in kreate a kharacter because the idea of interactive finishers is not much different than the kreate a fatality in MK:A. It is not a bad idea though...if anything it might actually be a good idea to use if they have large exotic boss characters.
