for the record,confirmed fightable NPCs are Rain,Sindel,Baraka,Tanya and Corrupted Shinnok.
the other NPCs are in story cutscenes. Regarding the secret living tower fights,it's been rumored the secret fights are: Rain,Cyrax,Kabal,Smoke and Meat. Whether that's true or not,remains to be seen.

Just watch the recent Fatal 8 tournament video, that is the roster of who is playable, the only people missing are the 4 DLC characters (and possibly Goro, idk if I saw him iin there or not)

Those others guys aren't playable, just NPC's or cameos.

Aside from this, I have no idea about any models being found, or whats in the towers or whatever.

Altough i find it kind of stupid if all those characters are in the game, in design, moves, etc etc but are not playable.

It mainly has to do with story importance/fan service. There are a few characters in the game that do a lot less than what the NPCs do, yet they are still playable. It irks me.

I haven't seen much, to avoid spoilers, but from what I have seen there is more involvement from Rain, Fujin & Tanya in story mode than half of the playable roster of the game! And in the case of Rain, that includes even the damn trailer.

Yet Tanya we have to pay for and Rain and Fujin are just there to taunt us. It's either a cruel kombat style joke or they wanna see how much we will be willing to pay for them.

For those not in the know and just casual fans, the trailer alone would make one think Rain is a definite playable character. And anyone who saw the leak of the first 25min of story mode all over youtube would think Fujin would be an automatic playable.

I am still excited for the game, but I am not surprised by the way this game is being handled that my local Gamestop/EB has said they are surprised by how little pre-orders they have had for what they expected to be a very popular game.
