I agree. I think it's going to either be a MMORPG or an RPG. Look how the games have been progressing:

MK3-Survival Mode
Mk4-survuval Mode
Mk5-Test Your might, Test your sight, simple form of knoquest, krypt
Mk6-Expanded Konquest, chess, puzzle kombat, krypt
MKSM-Adventure/platformer
MK7-MKSM style konquest,motor kombat, krypt

As the series has progressed, the fighting element has become smaller and less emphasized as the extra games.

When you look at other fighting games, it is clear that the mortal kombat story is growing beyond its britches.

There are enough characters and worlds and stories to do a full blwon RPG or MMORPG.

They've taken fighting as far as it can go. Konquest has been the focus, best part of the last 3 games.

The next game will take Konquest to the next level. RPG.

First of all, Boon was talking about MK8, not the next "adventure" series, so that would rule out the rpg category. The past story is dead anyway, they're going to start a fresh new one for MK8. By going in that direction saying that they're doing something no one is going to expect, it probably has to do with the new game engine, that no one is going to expect.
