"Cassie and Kotal have inherited a couple of tricks from their ancestors (MK X is set 25 years after the events of MK 9), but they’re a far cry from being palette swaps for them."
Interesting. So I guess that is definitive that he has a connection some way with Shao Kahn
Also, the article gets Ferra and Torr mixed up. Cool.

My theory about Kotal: he's Shao Kahn's bastard son, fighting for his illegitimate heritage.

Can't spell "ignorance" without "ign"

That could work, actually... so his mother's heritage is what affects his character design, maybe.

"5 slot for finshers 2 fatality,one stage,babablity,maybe animality"
Could be. I think there are three fatalities - one for each version of the char.

"Kotal Khan on the other hand, has a style that allows him to summon totems that buff him for as long as they remain on screen. He can even summon a persistent beam of sunlight that deals damage when an enemy passes through it, but heals him if he stands under it."
MY BODY IS READY.

i believe Kotal is Related to Reiko and not Shao Kahn ...
5 slots for Fatalities maybe we get 3 fatalities per character this game a stage and brutality i can't see babalities and Animalities returning

Still pretty sure Kotal Khan is Shao Kahn's father, and an Elder God. Someone in another topic mentioned the god bit was confirmed at E3, didn't they?

His three styles are called "War God", "Sun God", and "Blood God".
I found THIS line from the article very interesting.
"Cassie and Kotal have inherited a couple of tricks from their ancestors (MK X is set 25 years after the events of MK 9), but they’re a far cry from being palette swaps for them."
So is it confirmed that Kotal Khan is the son of Shao Khan? Or is the article's author simply assuming?

Assuming. Couldn't even be bothered to learn who was Ferra and who was Torr. :P
@fijikungfu and @shadoloo
Good points guys.
Perhaps the term "descendant" doesn't necessarily mean a blood descendant, but a descendant of the same clan or race of beings.
I don't recall Shao Khan's back story too well, so maybe this is one of the guys he stepped over on his way to the top, and now with Shao out of the way, Kotal is stepping up.
Will be interesting to find out.

He was Protector-God of Outworld. Spent his days giving Onaga advice, then decided he'd rather be in charge so he poisoned Onaga, renounced his position and took the throne for himself.

Where did that info/backstory come from? I believe you, I just don't ever remember seeing it in a game.

Right. And that makes me think that "Kahn" may not be a name, but a title for Outworld Gods.
