here are a few ones i'd like to see that weren't in mka if weapons appear in mk9.

scythe.
flail.
kusarigama.
smoke bombs.
ninja stars.
throwing knifes.
halberd.
sabre.
falchion.

these are some of my all time fav weapons that did not appear in mk, except for a few.

if weapons do return which would you like or enjoy in mk9.

If they did happen to bring back the weapons and somehow there were to be fatalities with them...

Check out this video, and at 2:49 probably has to be the best way to die from a scythe:

Other than that... I like to see the pulse saber or whatever the heck Cyrax had for a weapon.

Pole arm weapons such as:

Staff
Spear
Kwando
Naginata
Halberd
Scythe
etc etc

One thing that annoyed me about Armageddon's KAK was that the weapons choice was limited and we were not allowed such weapons as Raiden's staff, even though they were already in the game.

^^I agree with not having weapons back. I think if weapons are involved though they should be implemented into special moves.

I can settle for that, as well as fatalities.

More weapons. Retain the martial art, and weapon art styles.

No more made up weapons (devastator, storm blade, kick axe) or absolutely impractical ones (scythe).

I'd like to see weapons come back ONLY if they really contribute to the style of the character. In other words, there needs to be a good number of weapon moves that are actually INTERESTING to pull off. Whether you want to call these weapon-specific special moves or *gasp* simply having standard moves that differentiate characters from one another (I know that about 50% of the fans on this board would rather MK keep the standard moves for characters practically the same across the board).

But here's what I mean, Chrome said "no more impractical" weapons and then listed the scythe as an example. I want to see weapons that are made practical by the character because they have mastery over what that weapon can do in a fight.

For example, on the surface, bringing a whip to a fight probably isn't an example of a practical weapon choice, but what if there were close range attacks (maybe cracks of the whip from the owner holding it half way, tie ups, so you can flip the opponent over etc) and then long range attacks that either move your own character, move the opponent into a better position, move you closer to the opponent or them to you etc. Maybe you have a style that's semi-similar to Ivy in Soul Calibur only perhaps not quite so outlandish.

My point is that there are a ton of weapon ideas out there and what really stunk for me about the recent MK games was the fact that A) The variety of weapons was so limited. Sure you had the occasional staff, but how many people had a sword, or some variation on a sword and B) The variety of the moves for each weapon was SEVERELY limited from a creative standpoint.

You know why alot of MK fans probably don't want MK to bring weapons back? It's not only because MK was traditionally a non-weapons based fighter before, I mean the series has had them since MK4. It's because the moves themselves are flat out boring.

Give me a character that uses a knife or sword the way the protagonist in Brotherhood of the Wolf uses knives in the final battle. Sorry, I can't find the scene on Youtube, just rent it if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's an awesome movie. Basically, he spins the knives in his hands and he's fighting a guy that uses a sword that extends, exactly like Ivy's in Soul Calibur (ironically).

But yeah, I'd like to see a ball and chain like Go Go's from "Kill Bill Vol 1" as well as a trifold staff,

Also:

Butterfly knives (Balisongs)
Katars (push knives)
Kujang (hook knife)
Main-gauche (triple knife)
Monk's Spade
Kanabo (Iron staff)
Meteor Hammer (Go Go's weapon)
Three Sectional Staff (also mentioned already)
Rope Dart (Think Scorpions spear, only used as a weapon)
Flail
Scimitar/Shamshir
Labrys (Double-sided axe)
Gladius

Or even make up a few weapons

Collapsible sword
Folding Long Claws (similar to Vega in SF, only they fold back and forth)
Grappling hooks (totally impractical normally, but could be cool)
Chain with lantern at the end (again, totally impractical, but could be cool)
Flaming sword/
Ice Lance

ie more fun, character specific weapons (mainly referring to the last two).

In other words, I want to use some weapons that could be fun, but I also want to see these weapons used in fun and unique ways! Don't just give me some slash combos and some chop/thrust/stab motions. I'm not saying that the moves need to be ridiculously outlandish, but but take advantage of the weapon's (and character's) inherent uniqueness.

If the weapon is a pike or a large spear? Maybe the charcter uses the weapon to stab the ground and flip over the opponent or simply cover large distances. Maybe there are weapons that can both stun an enemy or trap them?

I'm not saying that there aren't ANY unique weapons. Tonfas, nunchaku, sun & moon, hook swords and steel fans are all great ideas. But there are WAY too many swords in MK and there are way too many weapons that are so similar in type that they practically do the same exact thing.

Give Scorpion a sword, fine, but maye he can make it explode into flames with the push of a button. Then he can breathe flames at people, stab the ground and makes flames shoot up from underneath the opponent, the list goes on.

Bottom line... Take the idea of weapons and make it uniquely MK or don't bring them back at all. Make the idea new again, and make it fun!

A 16th century masters book does provide techiques for the modern scythe, but obviously it was just what it was. A curiosity.

Peasants took off the blade of the scythe and attached it to a straight pole, so it looked like a spear. It had more functional uses that way, hell, it was the original form of the scythe in the middle ages. It remained in use even in the 20th. century.

This is the same idea with "dual wielding" swords. The nito-ryu has practical use, but the Tachi-tanto or katana-wakizashi sets are sword and dagger.

Two swords may look good on paper, but a single sword is faster, precise, deadlier and stronger. The only double sword wielding I know of is the Bolognese italian school, which used mainly sword and dagger, or exceptionally two swords which they themselves described as: learn and know one sword before you take up another.
