If the new game will be a reboot, why Boon refers to it as MK9?

I know that this is only a codename that is about to change, but number '9' in this case propably means continuation to the series story or whatever. Because if it's a reboot, why Boon prefers to call it 'MK9' and not, for example 'new MK'?

Boon doesn't look at the number as continuity, but It's the 9th game to carry the Mortal Kombat name, that is made by him at least. Deadly Alliance was referred to as MK5 at one point, Deception was MK6, etc.

Yeah, but back then, there wasn't a talk about a reboot. And no offense to you either Casselman, but are you in such a hurry for this thread to be closed? It's not up to you bro...

To answer for him so there is no thought of hostility, when a post is asking a direct question that is asking not opinion but is asking fact, once it is answered it should be closed in order to avoid clutter. It's not Casselman's call or my call, it's just how it usually is.

Nothing negative was meant. The only thing I am in a hurry for is to see this game. There is much debating going on a tthe current moment so id rather have one post and state it all instead of 3 or 4 wondering whats gonna happen here.
And im really jacked up cuz im watching a tied hockey game right now. lol sorry.
The question has been answered, so I was simply following the same code of conduct we usually do for the fluent and best possible operation of this great community.

Same reason they referred to the new Star Trek film as "Star Trek 11" while it was in production, even though it was a reboot, as well.
Basically, the fact that they are calling it MK9 is meaningless, we'll just have to wait and see whether it's a reboot or not.

Actually Star Trek 11 WAS a direct continuation and not a reboot...Yeah it rebooted the franchise, but the storyline (not the movie itself) starts in the future after the events of the other 10 movies and has spock travel back in time to the beginning of the Federation after a series of unfortunate events...And then the new events in the past alter the future for what the series is going to be...
AND NOW BACK TO MORTAL KOMBAT...lolol...
They could possibly be doing something like this for the MK series. In the MK universe there are portals and gods and sorcerers, realms, and I'm sure alternate universes could be incorperated in there somewhere if it's going to start at the beginning again...After Armageddon, maybe some kombatants get whisked back in time to the beginning, and then it'll change the course for future MK games....But it could still be looked at as being MK9 AND a continuation from Armageddon...
That's just my best logical guess

Its called MK9, the very same reason MKvsDC was MK8.

They basically did give you an answer, whether it was filled with facts or not. Be happy someone actually answered your question at all.
As they said, it's basically the "ninth" game despite if you take a look at the chronological order of the games, it would be the eighth since no one should really consider the crossover to be put in there, but sadly they are.
If they also included Shaolin Monks in the list, and as well as giving consideration to put MK vs DC in the list as well, this game would then be the tenth. Actually no, it really wouldn't, it would be the eleventh because you have Mythologies. Here's the order:
Mythologies
MK
MK2
Shaolin Monks
MK vs DC
MK3/UMK3
MK 4/Gold
Deadly Alliance
Deception
Aramgeddon
(The next installment)
But, no one is including the adventure games, but still believes that the crossover should still be in the list, so take out the adventure games, this would be the ninth. But I'm not counting the crossover to be fitted anywhere in this list, so it would really be the eighth game.

actually you forgot trilogy...or would that be considered as another expansion on mk3/umk3? also i dunno about you but the case for my mk:da has roman numeral for 5 on it to symbolize it was mk5...that was the last game to have a number placed on it.
as for what you said...they do look at it that way. you don't count the action/adventure games (mythologies, shaolin monks and special forces) but if trilogy is considered its own game than it would be mk10.

In the Wiki, Trilogy is explained as being an expansion of MK3/UMK3.

that could have easily been a coaster or cup-rest. A disc would look verymuch like a disc. This lacks the clear rim in the middle. I want to buy it. But i cant.
