I was just curious to know, if they ever made a Mortal Kombat game with all new characters, getting rid of Scorpion, Sub-zero, and most of the other old characters, how many of you would still buy it? I would probably give it a chance, as long as the new guys looked cool.

I'd buy it and play it before judging it. But I can already tell you now that Sub-zero and Scorpion will never be left out of a Mortal kombat game. As soon as they drop that bomb, all the fanboys of the two will throw a temper tantrum of epic proportions.

It's already been done...

Mortal Kombat 3 didn't have Scorpion on the roster and it caused a HUGE backlash from fans... hence why they made Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 so they could include him plus all the other ninjas that were absent from the game... to date, Mortal Kombat 3 is the ONLY Mortal Kombat game to not feature Scorpion... Sub-Zero... well, since there's two of them... I guess one or the other is always going to appear...

Personally, Mortal Kombat wouldn't be Mortal Kombat without either Scorpion or Sub-Zero... it's like Street Fighter without Ryu or Ken... or Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 without a gun... lol

I wouldn't mind a new MK with all new kombatants.

It actually could be done.

The Island still exist... ShangTsung finds a way to get back on it and invite many warriors to collect their souls...

A new story could emerge from it.

Let say MK was set in the 80's, 90'...

This new one could be set in 2020... not to far from now... having the hero's of the last generation died or are to old to fight...

Even if they did a game set 50 years in the future at the next MK tournament, there'd still be characters from the old timeline who almost have to appear. Sub-Zero is an inherited name, so his son or grandson would show up as the new one. Fujin would have to appear, in the role Raiden had in the first game, now that he's the protector of Earthrealm. Scorpion could still show up as he doesn't age and might have a reason to fight since he's still technically Champion of the Elder Gods.

Another thing to consider is that the MK tournament is between Earth and Shao Kahn's forces. If Shao Kahn were dead, the tournament would come to an end and a new one could be started between Earth and either Outworld or a different realm at any time they like, they wouldn't have to wait the 50 years. All the other realm would have to do is declare they want to invade.

Or for a change of pace, Dark Raiden could want to take over another realm and challenge them to Mortal Kombat, making Earth technically the badguys for once.

ehh...would play it, but not for long. See, those are my favorite 2 characters to use because there moves are easy to use and remember. freeze is usually down, forward, low punch. Spear move is back, back, low punch. Notice I said usually because I don't think they have erased that certain button combination from any of the games.

But if the improbable happened, I would want Kung Lao in the game. One of the first characters that I ever got use to.

Despite Scorpion and Sub-Zero being my top 2 favorite characters (I know, I'm a rebel, huh?) I'd give it a shot.

I would still play it. I was under the assumption that after Armageddon we would have all new players anyway, because thats what Boon upon it releasing that this was going to be the last game on the PS2/Xbox Consoles and the games for the "Next-Gen" systems (PS3/360) would include all new characters. That was always my vision of it because that's what we were told and I just went with it.

Either way I would still play it because I still find the story so interesting and always feel wanting more.

That's actually not what Boon said. He said they'd have "as much newness as possible" and people just assumed he meant the roster, when what he probably meant was really the gameplay engine.

It wouldn't hurt me one bit. Those two are WAY TOO overrated.

Yeah, I'm waiting for a game where they are confident enough on the game itself to not have to include Scorpion and/or Sub-Zero.

I'd like to see a new Sub-Zero and a new warrior based on Scorpion.

As for a new generation, it'd be nice to see some retired, raising children to become the new heroes... and villains.

A new Sub-Zero could be cool, as Razor said, passing the name on to his son/ apprentice. Could spark a rivalry between a new Sub-Zero and Frost if the storyline allowed.

Scorpion will probably come back every now and then when appropriate. I mean, he still has to enact revenge on the Elder Gods for betraying him. I just don't think he needs to be in EVERY Mortal Kombat game.

If the Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu were still around and a new warrior from each clan was playable, even if not a cryomancer or Specter, I could deal with it.

I'd buy it most likely. Scorpion isn't a fav of mine at all. Sub-Zero I just like freezing people, so sure I like to play with him but meh.... To compare... When they killed Liu and didn't have him in MKDA, I decided not to buy the game because my fav char wasn't in the game. Though that was years ago and I eventually did get MKDA anyways. I've changed sense then as well and some thing as little as some character not being playable I no longer care about.

Right now the only thing that has me buying MK is for the story. MKvsDC has no canon story whatsoever and was crap anyways so I didn't buy that one. I am a sucker for MK's story though for some reason even though the writing at times is so damn horrible.... Anyways MK, its story, characters, and the whole MK mythology has just been apart of my life for like 17 years now, and things that appealed to me about it as a kid still do to this day. So as long as there is more canon story, it's a must for me.

If they do some thing like MKvsDC again and have no actual canon story, then it all comes down to the gameplay and depending on how well it is balanced and not broken weither or not if I'll buy it.

So Subby? Scorpion? Not in MK? If ya ask me, it would be a breath of fresh air..... but would piss off like 500,000 people at least I imagine.

I'd give anything a chance. Although Scorpion and Subby are the poster boys we all know that it is possible to remove them and still enjoy the game.

Look at Tekken 3. They got rid of half the cast including Kazuya. Granted they brought them all back, but Tekken 3 was still awesome and I played it for a long time.

Despite my great animosity towards Scorpion, even I myself know that MK just wouldn't be the same without him.

I can easily ignore him in the character select, but as long I know he's selectable, I'm good.
