If MK9 is 2D
Do you think they will use real people like the classics?
Fatalities could be so insane..... just imagine Sub-Zero performing his spine rip. When the head starts to rip you actually see fake flesh stretching and tearing. I really hope they make this game sick. So sick it's disgusting

dude if its 2d i really doubt they will do the same as the old mks and use real people. Most likely they will do something similar to sf4 graphic wise.

The only people they are using for the game are the motion capturers. Mainly Daniel Pesina. Other than that, Mortal Kombat will not be using live action characters for their next game.
Besides, there hasn't been a live-action game in years. Basically, since the 90s unless I'm wrong. But with the technology we're using today, why go back to those old roots?

The fatalities would look the same as they did in 1993 if they used real people.

It would not look the same as it did in 1993. The animation would be extremely fluid and they wouldn't have to compress the models to fit in 16 bits or 32 bits. I don't know how you could even think that.....
I would hate it if MK9 was 2D, everyone would be like,
"Oh MK copying SF again? Quel Surprise".
and we dont want that. we want,
"Wow MK has done something new and original, Awesome!"
If it was a new HD 2D arcade game then that would be fine. I wont pay 40/50 quid for 2D.

I was thinking the same thing...

It really is not a big deal with dimensions when it comes to character models IMO. It matters more with the backgrounds and surroundings of the fighting area.
Ok....try to imagine it similar to the MK: Shaolin Monks versus system with the newer tech of the ps3 and 360.
This example some might think is a bad one but its the only game that fits with my thoughts...DragonballZ....the sandbox style arenas in DBZ are a bit large for MK standards but they have 3 dimensions....the destructable stuff is also 3d. The characters are pretty much 2 dimentions(cell shaded)....now change the art from cartoon to realism action and there is what I am getting at. It will not look like it did back in the 90's...not at all. Especially in HD.

It's not actually possible to make a cel-shaded character not look like a cartoon. Cel-shading is basically just taking a 3D model and adding very simply drawn, cartoony textures and lighting techniques to it.

@RazorsEdge701...Wow your right about the cell shaded characters. I could have sworn it was 2d. My bad....dunno where my head is at lol. I should have just kept going with the MK:SM explanation but I am sure that you get what I am saying. The thing is with this style the arena can not revolve around the characters...the characters would revolve around the arena. Otherwise it would be like paper Mario characters lol. If they went this route it would also even give them tons of extra room on disc for other modes and what not. In any case...the rumor of MK9 being 2d is more than likely not true anyway.
i don;t think that it will be 2d that is so dated and classy. why is it that there competing against Street Fighters, Mortal Kombat topped that game for years i mean it took a long time for that game to come out with a new one it has been beaten and i thinlk Midway should stick with the 3d, i mean they can make it god of war gory,

Do you guys even realize how much the 3D mortal kombats have sucked so much? The last and best mortal kombat was UMK3. I would have said trilogy but the game is imbalanced because of broken combos. The best 3D mortal kombat was mortal kombat 4 for dreamcast, and that is because it played like the 2d ones. Over at gamerfaqs it states that mk 9 will be 2d, but I highly doubt that. after mortal kombat 4, the gameplay got super slow and the speed of the fighting seemed boring to me. The only complaint I had against UMK3 was that the fighters seemed too animated compared to mk1 and 2, and the fatalities didn't seem to be taken seriously. What would I like to see? I would love to see the real life actors like mk 1, only much more animations and better graphics/resolution, while keeping the same pace for speed of the gameplay and similar combo ideas from umk3. I thought the fatalties from umk3 sucked except for sub zeros freeze and rip a part one. New and improved fatalties is something I'd like to see as well.
If they make it completely 2D it would be a step down because we would lose the side stepping and 360 visual of the stages.
I think the punches should be fast like the 2D games. If you saw the making of MK4 you know that the punches are slower because you see the full swing of a punch instead of a fist cocked back to in your face instantly.
