Sorry for being negative, but a few years ago when i bought MK4, i soon realized that Kai was the lamest character to ever make it into a Mortal Kombat game.

Because of this belief, I would not like to see him ever again unless the next game is a sort of "MK:T2".

ok i got some constructive criticism , i dont like the idea of the lightning , but the whole sand thing is F*&King awesome i wouldnt have thought of that in a hundred years its original and good , i hope midway listens to that suggestion

making Kai a "lightning character" wouldn't be well received by fans, because they'd all think of him as a lame Raiden rip-off

he does have major potential, but not in that direction

Why does everybody think every character needs some kind of supernatu-ral power? MK isn't about that, sure Raiden and Sub-Zero are well defined by lightning and cold, but Kabal, an ordinary man with a handycap melting into sand? Stupid IMO. Would ruin Kabal completely.

I like the idea of Kai manipulating sand, that's very innovative - one of the better ideas I've heard for a long time.

However, I would still like to see him with his air and ground fireballs. I think they were solid moves, and the ground one opened up great combo potential since it popped up the opponent.
Hopefully he would return with those moves, but make them move versatile - so at any moment he can rain fire down from the air, or raise it up from the ground. So depending on the button command the fireballs will either be close, medium distance or far (kinda like Unmasked Subby's old ice showers, but also with the ability to come up through the ground.) This way he could really dominate the arena, and make it a real mind game fighting him - cus you would never know where the fireballs would come from next...

Another thing is that Kai should definitely return with Raiden's lightning staff. He is mostly disliked, so if / when he returns the staff would give him instant credibility.
I also think he should be able to control lighting, but only through the staff. So he wouldn't be able to use lightining moves from his bare hands, only via Raiden's staff.

As for story about where he's been...Possibly something about how after MK4 he went looking for Kung Lao (since he was missing after MK3), or maybe something about rebuilding the White Lotus Society (which would open up possibilities for him to return with his protege / best student - which could be a cool new character.
Maybe his story could even involve his MK4 ending, where he goes on a soul searching quest, say back to Africa (more possibilty of another new earthrealm character, perhaps a zulu warrior) and with Raiden's staff, he finds the key to immortality (isn't africa supposedly the cradle of life? Seems like a place where the key to immortality would be found)

I always liked Kai, and still feel he has plenty of untapped potential, any African warrior has the opportunity to be a great character imo, since it is very different from the regular asian-influenced characters seen in MK...

what if Kai had a plot with Chow Kang, Liu's bro? what if he was kicked out of the white Lotus society around the time of MK1 for his evil ways. he wandered the world, acumulating fighting styles until he happened upon a notorious outlaw named Chow Kang. Chow Kang being Liu's dark half and complete opposite (you can tell because he has a goatee. lol). after realizing that they both know Liu, they form an alliance and plan to annihalate anyone affiliated with the white Lotus and Shoalin temples starting with Liu. Kai was sent on a mission to beat the living crap out of him and bring him back to Chow. Raiden interfeared with the battle with word of Shinnok's return. covering his tracks, Kai explained that he was sent by the white lotus to assassinate Lui, but would valiantly help Raiden in his cause instead. one thing lead to another and Kai ended up working for Havik with Chow by his lonesome to assail Lui. as for his weapons... how about a "sword of blance"? a scimitar with a purple ribbon balanced on the blade that doesn't fall off throughout the fight.... just a suggestion. I don't see him having Rayden's staff, beings that Rayden had it through MKDA and MKD. move-wise, maybe anything having to do with martial arts and channeling inner energies. think lightning fist thingies in Tekken. the sand thing was a good idea and has alot to do with Africa (Egypt). costume: his third costume from MK4 for his primary. the glasses flash orange from time-to-time like Mario Van Peebles in Highlander: the final demension. for his secondary, I'd say what would happen if Dee Jay went evil. baggy black sweat pants that have the symbol for Chaos on one side and the brothers of shadow on the other. and a headband, mon

if you'll recall, i had a RPG charater on here by name of sand, with about the same powers.


that being said, kai realy stinks. even his name reminds me of bland yogert.

I dislike Kai too... that's why I'd like to see him redone!
MK4 presented a bunch of characters that where either mediocre or just plain remakes of old ones... and Midway just keeps on creating more and more characters and reviving more characters... making the entire story less credible... that's why I think that instead of keeping on bringing characters from the dead, just give them a spectacular death to be remembered, and let them rot.... I kno it'd be hard on fans, but I think it's for the better. Once dead characters are REALLY dead, use the ones that are alive and their stories have not been exploited, like Kai, Fujin, Rain, Reiko (I dare not say Stryker...) and fix them! they keep making messes like Reiko/Khan, Rain's double bio, 1-game characters...

plus.. they NEED to work on those endings! you can't just kill someone in every ending... cause u end up killing continuity!


Someone asked why should all they have powers, I don't think they all should, but think about it...most mk characters have powers... even the most commons like Cage... Kai already had powers... but they where Fireballs and flying punches... now the up-down fireballs where good game-wise... but the whole thing was pretty generic... so instead of making a whole new character with a new set of techniques... just give them to Kai and u kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone... u use a wasted character and introduce new interesting fighting techniques (they don't need to be powers... I just suggested sand.... but he could just use weapons like stryker did)

Also i think that he should definiely return with the lightning staff, i think he could be a very large part of the storyline, in that going with a common theory that Raiden will be the boss or sub boss, attempting to teach the mortals a lesson, going mental and attempting to rain havoc apon earthrealm, puttting it in a state much like that of MK3, that Kai could return with the lightning staff raiden gave him in MK4, and somehow tie that in with the storyline, such maybe the staff has some of raidens powers and kai has returned to help the earth fighters this way, using lightning against lightning etc, or using raidens own powers against him.

I think he should keep his Ghurka Knife for a weapon, or use something like a Talwar or Shotel.

He should be able to move fluidly and have all kinds of neat twirling attacks with it, like Dairou did with his weapon in MK:D. It would be cool if he had a special move where he threw his weapon like a boomerang, as long as it don't seem like a rip-off of Jade.

I think some cool fighting styles for him would be Tiger and Capoeira (man, that would look awesome in some combos). He's got stripes on his skin like a tiger, which looks really cool, and he did have some handstand moves in MK4.

Maybe Dark Raiden will recruit Kai to join him.

I asked before and I'll ask again: Why wasn't Kai in either Deadly Alliance or Deception? You'd think he would also want revenge on the person that killed Liu Kang since they were friends. Why wasn't he summoned along with Kung Lao and the others?

probably because he was with Fujin to make sure the battle didn't spill over into Earthrealm. either that or dead. his tombstone reads "I got hit in the face with a Shinnok and now I'm dead"

I would much rahter Fujin be in than Kai. We need someone with a different power than electricity, such as wind. Anyway, I would rather Fujin come back over Kai any day. Although, as it was stated, it is more than likely that Kai will make an appearance in this game.

first of alll why not add both, since its next gen console, we can have all mk charcaters ever made including next ones. and i say yay for kai to come back, hes one of the only few black ppl in mk, and in our world the best martial artists are black, and since kai is more an africa type of person, even cooler then! so what if ppl have the same power! nitara and sindel have the same fighting styles, does that mean nitara cant come back? no, it just means that they can have the same but their moves are differnt, everyone adding their own freestyle of uniqeness,

Fujin......the potential is just massive. Kai is a nice character and I'd like to see him make a comeback, but his potential is nowhere near Fujin. Or Shinnok for that matter........I'd like to see either of them comeback, and instigate conflict with Raiden.
