Hypothetically, could Mortal Kombat be over if there was a sales slump??

I mean, if it was lackluster and did not grab fan interest, would Mortal Kombat cease to exist???

I say nope....
Even if the games sucked, MK would still be a prominent force in the gaming industry,
Perfect example is MK special forces..
Even if it does die, someone will redevelop the game in about 10 or so years time..
Probably Chrome.

If MK's sales slump then Midway is out of business, period.. Midway is already starting to slash it's development teams due to lacking sales. Without MK, Midway has absolutely nothing to keep it afloat.

Well, even if MK does bomb and Midway gets rid of it, that just means that the franchise is up for grabs. Wait for it to bomb bad enough and you could get it for a steal. What you could do with it after its reputation had bombed as well is doubtful to be spectacular, but you could get it at least. Still, I think there is a lot of life left in MK, and the developers just need to wake up and make it happen. Likewise, I think game fans needs to wake the heck up and figure out that MK is still a good franchise. It deserves better than to have people turn their backs on it.

Mortal Kombat should be over if it does what Street Fighter does and releases about twenty editions of the same game. I mean, "Ultimate Super Mortal Kombat Turbo Fatality 2" is not something I ever want to see in my lifetime.

Well, this is only likely if the well established 'MK Kontingency plan' didn't save them. As such an occasion is not at hand, it would be reckless of me to discuss it further... Other games might try to steal the concept if it were leaked prematurely.

I should think it could mean the end of MK. If the game is as bad as MKD is, then I think there will be a dramatic sales slump and they'd have no one else to blame but themselves and the MK Team. With the way things are going, MK's demise would be their own damn fault and brought on due to laziness and lack of time and effort.

I completely agree...but I hope that day never comes around...Man in my opinion if MK for one reason or another bombed and then if the bottom fell out and MK fans loose interest that would really suck...

No. You take that back right now.
Wow... if MK bombs bad enough yeah. And Midway will be gone to say the least. Of course there will always be some super hardcore gamer who gets his hands on a shitload of money and decides to resurrect the MK franchise where down the road making the MK title a close as possible to game while giving it that new cutting edge shine and gameplay. (Otherwords, do everything Midway needs to do to keep the franchise going.)
crap crap crap !!!!!!! i new one day id be dragged into this discussion well ok , hypotheticly yes but mk made midway MADE IT if they lose mk there in the hole millions of dollars wich may end midway that is why midway would activate a certain plan a plan where they try to make mk more populare to gain more mony for mk and midway

To be fair, if it did bomb out then I would love to get in on the ground floor with the writing. Seriously, I would absolutely love to do the scripting and such for the MK games. I wouldn't even need paid, I'd just like the opportunity to put my own touch on the franchise I love, and hopefully improve it from the most recent games. I should probably start putting together a nest egg so that I can put together my own development company and then buy out the MK franchise.
To be honest, I am not sure what anyone's problem is with the game play. Since I can only play single player, I am aware that I have not experienced the full sensation of the game (in fact, I always forget that its multi-player anyway), but I still don't see any problems with it, despite what most people say.
And you know the games won't end now, like, there is no way that there can be a sales slump right after MKD. A lot of people here bash it for whatever reason, but it got good reviews across the board and was widely played by a lot of people. The next one will sell, but if its not as good then it won't do as well, and eventually the popularity garnered from MKDA and MKD will wane and vanish, and Midway will be shit out a luck.
But not now. There's no way MK can fail coming off the back of MKD.

My dream's always been 10 games. Up to MK10. Cause, in the story, 10 victories means it's over and whatever happens happens.
I always thought that'd be a logical ending.
Then they could just make prequels and shit......or I dunno.
